Free WP Blog!

So I have a free WP blog at WP.com and I'm thinking about switching over and self-hosting the site I have up now instead of using the the WP hosted blog. I plan on still using the WP platform, but hosting the site myself.

My question is, would I be impacted negatively in any way? Loss of PR?
I'm very content with my sites' ranking, Does WP.com SEO the free blogs automatically? If so, I'm assuming i'd lose that? Should I wait until the site matures a little bit? Launched in June.

Can you 301 to the new site? If you can, problem solved. However, there is always a chance of screwing everything up when making a minor change, even more so in your case, but I think it's a chance you should prob take...

I own the domain. Wouldn't I just be able to take my content and domain to my new host without having to redirect?

I believe it would technically just be a move of hosts. content and domain would all be the same. I was curious in knowing if WP.com had anything to do as far as doing SEO on it's own. If my SERP doesn't get affected in any negative manner, than I guess we're good to go.

Self-hosting Wordpress site is a must and very convenient to migrate. There is a plugin that will make the transition for you from your WP.com to your self-hosting.

You have more to gain than to lose. Full control. You will be able to expand your site much more, no concern of a sudden shut-down of the site by WP.com because this is a real possibility if you are not aware of it.

In full control of your site you will be able to add what kind of ad you wish and much more cuz WP.com puts some restriction on it.

So you have much more to gain than to lose, don't worry, the process is very easy, and always remember to make a back up of your site, frequently, daily and/or weekly, in a dedicated email or Dropbox account.
