TikTok vs. IG Reels: Which is converting better for you?

TikTok is great for attention, but Instagram Reels often turns viewers into buyers.

That’s exactly what I’m seeing too. TT views are a vanity metric if they don't click, but I’ve heard some people say the 'TikTok Shop' integration is changing that. Have you tried selling directly on the platform, or are you strictly using it as a top-of-funnel reach play?

In my opinion, there’s no platform that’s “better overall” — only one that’s more suitable.

TikTok excels at reach and virality, making it great for attracting new audiences, but it requires a well-optimized funnel to convert.

Instagram Reels often delivers higher conversion rates because users are more accustomed to shopping and trusting brands there.

tiktok is better then IG.
it's my personal experiences.

Both can convert, but right now TikTok still wins for direct response because of addictive feeds and lower CPAs , especially for younger demos and impulse offers. Reels feels more discovery/brand‑leaning unless you’ve got super tight audiences. Test both, but don’t sleep on creative hooks; platform doesn’t matter if the hook sucks
But TikTok is way more aggressive with the '200-view jail' than Reels. I can spin up 10 Reels accounts and get 2k views on each without trying. Is the lower CPA on TikTok worth the constant battle against flags and shadowbans?
In my tests TikTok still edges out Reels for straight conversion ,
more impulse buys and lower CPAs ,
but Reels wins for long‑term engagement and traffic that sticks. TikTok is great for quick wins if your creative hooks are strong, while Reels feels more ‘slow boil’ SEO‑like traffic that builds brand + trust. Best play is to run both with tailored creatives and track by offer type, not just platform.
That's a solid breakdown. Between the 'impulse' on TT and the 'slow boil' on Reels, which one are you finding easier to scale with automation right now?

Fair point. So are you mainly using TikTok as the 'top of funnel' to drive people to an IG profile, or are you sending TT traffic straight to a lander? I've noticed the 'trust gap' on TikTok is getting harder to bridge without a massive following.

Same here. TikTok drives volume, IG simply converts better. TikTok for reach, Instagram for buyers.

I've been following this conversation closely, and I have to agree that both TikTok and Reels have their own strengths when it comes to conversions and engagement. Driftproxy, I particularly liked your breakdown of TikTok being great for quick wins with strong creative hooks, while Reels is more suited for long-term engagement and building brand trust. When it comes to scaling with automation, have you found that one platform is more forgiving than the other in terms of account flags and shadowbans, or are you taking a more cautious approach with both?

Yes, TikTok wins on reach, but Instagram tends to convert better. TikTok traffic often sits higher in the discovery phase, and IG users are usually closer to buying, from Reels than profile than link flows. If conversions are the priority, many people split it TikTok for top-of-funnel volume, IG for retargeting and sales

In my experience, TikTok is more 'forgiving' but more 'binary.' You can push it harder, but once they flag you, the account is usually bricked (0 views forever).

Instagram is more sensitive but nuanced. They'll shadowban you for 2 weeks for a minor API spike, but you can usually 'warm' it back up. I’m currently taking a 'Cloud-Mobile' approach—using 4G proxies and anti-detect browsers like Multilogin to stay under the radar. Are you running everything through the official API or using a custom scraper/automation setup?

Both are good, however, in the case you have Models, you can get them to do TikTok Live streams, and then have them post reels on Instagram to get more exposure.

Sending traffic directly from TikTok to a landing page without proper trust-building can be expensive. I’m testing a hybrid approach: TikTok content focuses on strong hooks and social proof, and the real conversion happens in an environment where users are more comfortable making purchases

I consider both of these formats exclusively as audience reach, not sales. Again, it all depends on the content. If you want a lot of views and subscribers, go for the entertainment type; if you want sales, go for the commercial type, where you will get dozens of times fewer views but more sales.

I’m getting 5x the views on TikTok but the IG traffic seems to actually buy.
Is anyone seeing the opposite?
Trying to decide where to dump my budget for Q1.
instagram and fb have more quality audiences.

For me, i don't like ig reels as promotion videos, it's just another pinterest social media. for best engagement use tiktok

I think the biggest mistake people make in 2026 is chasing the 'Explosive Reach' of entertainment content and then wondering why their bank account is empty.

A Reels video with 2,000 views that is 100% product-focused will always out-convert a 1M view 'trending audio' clip.

I get why you say that. Reels feels like a 'shopping catalog' now, whereas TikTok still feels like a 'social' platform.

TikTok is more of a "boom" spot. If a video goes viral, it gets incredible reach. But not everyone watching is ready to buy.

Reels, on the other hand, seems to have a calmer but more committed audience. Especially if you already have an Instagram page, trust is built faster.

Yeah, I’ve seen that too. TikTok usually gives way more views, but IG traffic often converts better, especially for slightly higher-intent products.

If IG is bringing buyers for you, I’d scale there first and use TikTok more for top-of-funnel and brand awareness.

Depending on the industry, TikTok is suitable for impulsive shopping and young people, while Instagram Reels is better suited for older brands that want to connect more closely. Choose the right platform to optimize your marketing strategy!
