Which method do you like more for getting link juice to your sites and why?

There is more work involved with a PBN, but is it worth the extra work? Why not just 301?

Depends on what you’re trying to do.

301s are the lazy/fast play. You buy a decent expired/auction domain and funnel whatever it has into your site. Works best when it’s clean + same niche, and you’re not trying to get fancy. The catch is you’re betting everything on that one domain. If it has a weird history, the redirect looks off, or it gets discounted, you’re basically done. Also, if it’s not a tight topical match, much of the value doesn’t seem to carry over.

PBNs are more annoying to build, but you get control. You can pace links, tweak anchors, swap URLs, remove anything that looks hot, etc. And you’re spreading risk across multiple sites rather than a single big redirect.

For super competitive niches, I’d rather have control and go with a PBN. For quick projects or when you snag a genuinely solid expired, 301s can be plenty.

You can also stack them (301 into a buffer/PBN site, then link out). Just don’t make it a blatant funnel.

PBNs work basically every time, 301 redirects do not work most of the time. And quite often, you will completely screw up your money site as a bonus.

Definitely I would vote PBN. Yeah they are more effort but the returns are entirely worth it.

PBNs work basically every time, 301 redirects do not work most of the time. And quite often, you will completely screw up your money site as a bonus.

It depends on what you’re trying to achieve. A PBN takes more work, but it gives you more control. You decide where the link placed, anchor text used, and how fast links are added. That usually makes the results more consistent and risk free.

301 redirect is quicker, but it’s a one-time move. Once it’s done, you can’t really adjust anything, and if the old domain has hidden problems, those issues can affect your site.

For that reason, many people use PBNs for steady, controlled growth and keep 301s as an occasional tactic rather than the main strategy.

I'm going to try the PBN route for these reasons:

1. You can link to multiple money sites with 1 PBN site, not just one.
2. You can monetize the PBN site itself.
3. Seems easier to connect the topics between the two if you are linking instead of redirecting. More topical flexibility.

1. Be careful here though as this will leave footprints that you will have to hide properly
2. Depending on monetization method, this might leave massive footprints. If we are talking display ads, then I doubt you will be making a separate account for each PBN site. If we are talking some guest posts and stuff, sure, that's fine.

Why not just 301?

Just like @Nargil said, 301 used to work like magic button, but not anymore. You have a higher chance of ranking with a good PBN.

There is extra work with PBN but I prefer it than 301.

I use both but for different jobs: 301s are faster and cleaner for passing existing authority while PBN links give more control and flexibility so the extra work is only worth it if you need long term leverage and anchor control not as a replacement for smart redirects.

depends what you want, control or convenience.

PBN = more work, more control.
301 = easier, but less control and more footprint risk if done sloppy.

with a PBN you can:

– control anchor text
– control context
– drip links over time
– build multiple links from same domain
– remove or change links whenever you want

with a 301, it’s basically a one-shot transfer. you’re inheriting whatever history that domain has, good or bad. you can’t control anchor profile, and sometimes the juice doesn’t pass as clean as people think, especially after updates.

also, expired domains used for 301s can be risky if they’ve been abused before. you don’t really know what you’re inheriting.

is PBN worth the extra work? if you’re building long term money sites and need precision, yes. if you’re doing churn & burn or testing fast, 301 is simpler.

personally, I see 301s more as a boost tool. PBN is more of a long-term weapon if managed properly.

but both can hurt you if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing.

Of course you can control the anchor profile of a 301, just as you can with any other domain.
