301 redirect better than PBN!

So I bought a number of domains at godaddy auction and restored the site to put them on a pbn with a link to my money site. Although it did boost my DR score, it wasn't as much as I hoped.

Then I tried something else. I took all the sites off the pbn and did a 301 redirect and wow! The difference is HUGE! All my sites are very closely related to the niche of my money site. When I check the backlinks i'm getting a lot more new links from many decent DR sites with 301 redirect.

301 redirect still works and is underrated. For me it works way better than PBNs, but maybe because the sites are all highly related to my niche.

Anyone else had better experience with 301 redirect over pbns?

I thought Google changed this method a long while ago- of buying expired domains to 301 redirect through to your own website- but if it's working for you, then I won't be the one to ruin your good mood.
Hope it works out in the long run, too.

How long ago did you do this, just out of curiosity? Also it might be worth noting that you did put content onto the sites before slapping a 301 on. This might've been something that helped you rank.

That's awesome! Initial results can be mind blowing, but I think there's a side effect.

Don't know what went wrong but my bro's 4 year old blog was hit after that Google's update in 2020.

Looking back and trying to connect the dots, it could be the 301 redirects.

He started working actively on that blog abt a year ago and before that update, he did some 301 redirects, when he saw the results. He did moooorrrrrree!

Lol... Sadly, that blog just seems dead now. Got dropped from SERP for reasons we don't know.

He's removed all redirects, still nothing. In case anyone here knows a fix. I'd be glad to learn
 
301 Redirects were definitely washed/penalized last year for a lot of people.

Good luck with it but i'd suggest real work vs trying tricks

Google is catching on to the 'tricks' more and more rapidly

how much organic traffic will that bring to you?

i really didn't test any domain redirects since a good while,
but you shouldn't care or say if something works or not unless you did a proper experiment and compared Google rankings

This could be any number of things - none of us know without the site link you should probably not trust anyone here with (this is a general unwritten rule you'll learn through your time here, post 3 and onwards)

But if OP's 301's work for long enough, maybe Google dropped the penalty for this? I remember there was one.

I've already seen an increase in organic traffic too.
 
Congrats man.
Usually it does more harm than good.
But keep experimenting and keep us posted.

301 redirect will never die, they are essential for rebranding.
 
I have a website that uses 3 expired domain name redirects. These 3 expired domain names are all high-quality, and I bought them by auctioning them for a big price.
With the help of the 301 redirects of these 3 expired domains, my niche website has entered Google's homepage in about 4 months and some major keywords have made me a lot of money.
But the May algorithm hit my niche website in last year, and it still hasn't recovered.
Therefore, for 301 redirects, I think the effect is quite significant, especially when the expired domain name is closely related to your niche website.
If you have a good expired domain name, you can try a 301 redirect

Lots of redirects cannot be unseen by Google and like somone else mentioned .. many people got the hammer last year.
 
Wow it just keeps going up. DR was only 1.8 a few days ago and today it’s now it’s 43!!! The score is now equal to the domain I did 301 redirect with. So 301 redirect will actually make your money site the same DR as the one you 301 from!

I just find it weird that pbn did almost nothing in comparison. I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that the resurrected site didn’t have ssl? Or should this not matter?
 
Well yesterday I saw a bit of an increase in organic traffic but today since it went up to 43 nothing yet. I will try using omega indexer to see if it will be quicker. Maybe google just hasn't indexed it all yet.

Should I try to index my money site or the site that 301 redirects to the money site, or both?
 
Maybe it's because you added content to the site (and had that index) BEFORE setting up the 301. That's my bet, anyway. At least what I think it would be over SSL.
