In 2024, Google significantly intensified its efforts to ensure advertising integrity across its platforms. According to the company’s official Ad Safety Report, over 5.1 billion ads were removed and 9.1 billion had their visibility restricted due to violations of advertising policies. Furthermore, the accounts of more than 39.2 million advertisers were suspended globally — with many accounts deactivated before publishing a single campaign.
India emerged as one of the most affected regions, where over 247 million ads were taken down and 2.9 million advertiser accounts were suspended. This reflects a concentrated volume of policy breaches originating from the region.

Among the most frequent violations identified were:

  • Misuse of financial services
  • Trademark infringement
  • Manipulation of ad network mechanisms
  • Policy breaches involving personalized advertising
  • Promotion of gambling-related content
In particular, Google reported 146 million ad removals within the Gambling and Gaming category, marking it as a high-risk area for policy enforcement throughout 2024.

To bolster its detection capabilities, Google implemented over 50 upgrades to its large language models (LLMs). These improvements enhanced the company’s ability to conduct complex investigations and detect deceptive practices faster and more accurately.
The technology was instrumental in identifying bad actors and spotting emerging fraud patterns early — including the misuse of AI-generated content and deepfake technology for ad creation.
Despite the technical advancements, human oversight remains a core component of Google’s approach.

“While these AI models are incredibly valuable and have enabled a number of impressive breakthroughs, human involvement continues to play a critical role throughout the process,” noted Alex Rodriguez, General Manager for Ad Safety at Google.
To further combat fraud, the company formed a specialized task force of over 100 experts, tasked with enhancing detection protocols and disabling 700,000 advertiser accounts that failed to comply with Google’s ad policies.

I do wish they'd act on the massive lies their staff tell you. Any advice they give is only to increase their revenue...

Totally get that — let’s hope the AI upgrades bring more real transparency.

793M ads in the top category? That's a lot. The better their LLMs get, the harder it will be to circumvent the policies, be it SEO or advertising.
Yeah, the scale is wild. AI's making it way harder to game the system now.
