Hello!

I know the answer will probably be negative but I would like to know more about that:

I submitted a request to remove an Instagram account that was infringing my trademark, which ended in my favor. I then wanted to use my trademark as my username (the username that was on the now-disabled account) but Instagram won't let me.

I replied to the email I received advising me that the content had been successfully removed asking for the transfer of the username but got no response and initiated several further reports referring to the number of the successfully concluded report, always asking about the transfer, but I keep getting the automated response “It doesn't seem that you're reporting a violation of your intellectual property rights.”

Can anyone inform me of the common timelines after which a username becomes available? For example I know about the 14 days for name change (I know that they may not apply to this situation, since the account was essentially banned but I'd love to try anyway.)

Also, if anyone has an alternative solution to get that username, please DM me!

Thanks in advance.

Instagram doesn’t provide a clear timeline, but you might need to wait a few weeks for the username to become available. Try reaching out through their Help Center or Twitter for more support or some else

Short answer, no. I saw services of claiming usernames, you cam search within the marketplace as well but I do 't knkw how reliable they are.

Instagram doesn’t automatically release usernames from disabled or banned accounts, even if the account was taken down for trademark infringement. Once an account is permanently disabled, its username is typically locked indefinitely and doesn’t go back into circulation. Instagram has never publicly confirmed a set timeline for usernames becoming available, and in most cases, they simply don’t. Some usernames from inactive accounts may eventually be released, but it’s completely at Instagram’s discretion, and there’s no official policy guaranteeing it.

You’ve already taken the right steps by requesting a transfer, but Instagram rarely grants this. Unfortunately, replying to automated responses won’t get you very far. One potential alternative is trying to contact Instagram’s support through a business account or Meta’s paid support options if you have access. Otherwise, your best bet is to tweak the username slightly (like adding a dot, underscore, or abbreviation) and keep an eye on it in case it ever frees up. If you’re running a business, consider securing the handle across other platforms and optimizing your branding to work around this issue.

Good luck,

It might be possible but i think people charge a lot in this forum.

Unfortunately, Instagram's policies regarding username availability after an account is disabled or banned are notoriously opaque. There's no publicly available, guaranteed timeline.

Some users have reported that usernames become available anywhere from a few weeks to several months after an account is deactivated/deleted. Others have claimed they never become available. There's no consistency.

There's no guaranteed way to force Instagram to release the username. The best approach is to be persistent, try different angles in your support requests, and manage your expectations. Good luck!
Thank you so much for the point of view, I'll definitely follow the path.

Looks like Instagram isn’t too eager to release usernames even after an account is deleted. There are no clear timeframes, but some say it can take months or even years. You can check manually from time to time or try reaching out to support through a business account—sometimes that works better.

Most probably no, once the accounts are banned its very less chances you will get the username, when you try to create an account with that username, it will show up as not availaible.
