Hello SEO folks, I just bought a domain and when I plugged it into Ahrefs, it showed a 301 redirect (Picture). I asked some acquaintances, but they said there shouldn't be any issue. However, for the past three weeks, despite my SEO efforts, the website's performance has been very slow, with very few signals for keywords. Could there be a problem? I suspect this domain may have a history of 301 redirects. Is there a way to check? I'd appreciate any help from everyone.

What is the niche of the domain in the past? 301 redirection to a site that is spammy to you? Is the niche you are in highly competitive? Have you checked other SEO metrics of your site such as site speed, etc

This domain is one I just bought three weeks ago, and I haven't done any redirects before. The market is in the casino niche, which is quite competitive. I've checked other metrics, and everything seems normal except for the issue I mentioned earlier.

Use Wayback Machine to see if your new domain had any past redirections, which might be causing the slow website and SEO problems despite your efforts

Wayback Machine has not archived that URL :(

It was redirected to a parking page in the past and Ahrefs didn't catch up yet.

Reason why it's performing as shit is because it has already been abused once. Check your domains properly before buying.

Oh man you got terrible advice. Having a 301 on there IS a major issue. This has been used as a burner domain for SEO and the 301 makes it show metrics for the target domain. No one would 301 a good domain.

OMG, thank you for the guidance! By the way, could you please advise me on how to check the domain history before purchasing? I would really appreciate your guidance to avoid a repeat of this situation.

I'm really sorry to hear that. It's disappointing when you seek advice from experienced colleagues, including a leader, and they dismiss your concerns as normal.

Well maybe they didn't know

301 is done to make source and target domains look the same, source gets target metrics
