What's better for SEO, separate page or subdomain

I know subdomains are treated as separate sites according to google. But what would be better for SEO.

A subdomain, which involves setting up a new site (and pay monthly fee) or creating a new page? e.g domain.com/newpage instead of newpage.domain.com

What do you thinks better for ranking too?

My preference will be new page. Much easy to manage and will also rank good if properly worked upon.

You don't rank sites; you rank pages.

Without a doubt a separate page/post would be better than a subdomain.

I don't know what you want to actually do. So I don't have any answer.

A quick one, if your original site has some authority, it's best to create new page to inherit part of that domain authority. This is very subjective by the way.

Subdomains seem to do good if merging huge sites because not only empowers main domain but there are some synergies. There isn't much bibliography on this topic but is very commonly done by the SEO whales. Are they doing wrong? I Doubt so.

But definitely this is not your case, so remove the idea of subdomaining until you get 1 million visits per months.

If you are going to stay on topic with the same main domain then do pages. But if you are talking about cars and you are going to suddenly move to gardening, then buy a brand new domain. No subdomains no subpages. Each vertical topic in a separate domain.
