Google Penalty or not?

2 days ago I got back. Traffic from Google returned to 3k per day. I didn't made any changes, just removed "nofollow" attributes I've added recently.

But, surprise. Today, the same thing happend, most of my articles dropped from the first page of search results resulting in 70% Google traffic loss. It doesn't make any sense now...

Now was this a consecutive x amount of days in a row? If not, that doesn't sound like a penalty. A penalty will keep you from bouncing up until it is lifted.

What do you mean "There is no problem inserting natural duplicate content"

Please stop giving bad advice to people!!!!

OF COURSE THERE IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH DUPLICATE CONTENT

What do you think happens when you submit a press release?
It gets submitted to dozens or hundreds of places ........they ALL appear on page 1 of Google...and within days or weeks MOST of them get Filtered out

This is NOT a penalty but a Filter

Putting duplicate content on your page is a really not a smart move

google sees your site as a duplicate and will more than likely filter you out of the index since it doesn't need 2 sites with the same content on page 1
This is what happens with press releases..............

remove or change ALL of the duplicate content on your website..and you should see your site come back again

Before telling someone else to stop giving bad advice how about you stop giving bad advice yourself?

You can rag on about duplicate content all you like, but at the end of the day each piece of duplicate content is treated the same as any other piece of content.

Sure, if you just submit a duplicate article somewhere and don't do anything else, it will get filtered out the results, but so will a unique article if you don't do anything else to it.

If, however, you build quality links to the duplicate articles it is more than possible to have all of them ranking on the first page for the one keyword.

I've done this and so have many other people.

If Google just randomly filters out any form of duplicate content, then why don't they do the same thing for lyrics?

Search for the lyrics of any popular song and you'll see the same content on the first 20-30 results.

Submitting the same article to thousands of directories is called syndication, it is not going to get you any trouble with the search engines. Again, if you do nothing to the articles once you submit them they will fall out of the rankings, however, build links to them and they won't.

It does on articles and press releases...i have seen it over and over and over again. People also have something else besides lyrics on the page..but again....MAJORITY speaks not minority. Why dont you show us 1 article on page that has the SAME CONTENT and has been on page 1 for a while AND i'm talking about what WE USE......ezine, goarticles, etc

What you're saying is work EXTRA HARD to build backlinks to a duplicate content. There's no point in doing that. Again....Google FILTERS the content EVEN if you build backlinks to the copy .

If there's a HUGE problem with duplicate content, then wouldn't all associated press and reuters articles get penalized? They publish them all over the news, worldwide.

there's a difference between penalty and filter

it's a filter not a penalty

when reuters, cnn, msn, associated press and other news run hundreds of press releases....it last for a few days then it disappears from page 1 and usually only a couple stick on page 1
