Google Update - May 27th 2022 - What I Have Noticed

This update looks like it's a hunt for affiliate sites.

But some sites in the same niche were not affected. In my perception, the ones with the strongest domain, with backlinks and old ones didn't suffer as much

I'll wait a while to see if I have any recovered, but not very hopeful of that.

What I'm going to try is to change my pages, try to see how to make it look less like an affiliate, try to camouflage Amazon links, among other things.

I used to review products in general, so I did air fryer, smart tv, exercise bike, among others. But my strongest niche was beauty.

My domain doesn't have PBN links, or many other quality ones. It was all done on the basis of White Hat, with extensive content of 5000-6000 words each.

I have competitors who make the exact same content and have not suffered. Interestingly, they were always the ones I thought had the best domain or the best backlink service. Others are large portals, where my site is far from having similar domain authority.

As I said earlier.....its my whitehat site that getting pummeled. My blackhat site (PBN links) is doing great.

Not all of my reviews or guides are above 1k. What they do have though is quality, informative content that is genuinely helping others.

I and many can easily counter that claim.
I barely use google and yet when I do... I see long but fluffy content ranking on top.
I mainly use google for research... and sometimes I see articles in top 5 written by people who know absolutely nothing about the topic.
ps: google can't distinguish between quality and poor content... google doesn't know the facts... google doesn't know what's true or false.

I've got no doubt that since the information that I'm putting out is informative that the bounce rate is low and the overall time on the site is high that it's being used as a ranking factor.

It may not be able to determine what's true, but it can easily pick up when content has been lifted from a product description and had some pretty shitty and thin content wrapped around it.

1. I can see BS ranking in very competitive niches. It's much easier when you see no bs... you just improve and bank.
2. I kinda believe the dwell time plays a role. Not CTR but the dwell time.
3. Every time I counter somebody, I learn something new (some of the time)... so I use it for my own education.

Don’t panic on day one unless you’re completely wiped out. Google says it takes 2 weeks to fully roll out.

agree with it. I've seen many people panic and remove their backlinks/black hat seo or whatever good/bad they did to their site/web page instantly after the google update. This makes situation more worse. Those sites get tanked deeper and have less chance for recovery. Rather keep/pause what you were doing, and focus on adding good quality content (and not backlinks) for next 2 or 3 weeks. Let the natural backlinks pour in from third-parties. But avoid doing it yourself. After a month when the dust settles then compare your anaytics. IF the site is still tanked, then start removing bad backlinks or replace them with good ones.

Hi guys, I just thought I would share my findings up to now.....

Content quality seems to be the determining factor in my rankings.

I have 2 websites.

1 site is losing rankings (good quality content)

I wrote the content for both of my websites.

My second site (the one that is gaining rankings) has better quality content than the first (since I got better at writing over time).

This could just be coincidence, but its something I've noticed.

Maybe this is to combat websites pumping out tons of mediocre AI content ?

After a few days... I agree with your analysis. I know it's still early.
My shitty pages are tanking but good pages are good or even a tad better. For me, it's a good sign as I knew I had to improve those pages so another incentive to work harder.

As I said... it's the crap pages which are causing this fall (they were barely bringing any traffic anyway).
The graph shows impressions and average position... no changes in clicks.

At times, I feel like google actually helps us... during this update google said: "look, I like these pages but you really need to work on your crappy pages".
PS: Those crappy pages were on page 5 and went down to page 10 or something... so not a biggy.

I do think it has to do with fighting Ai content.

There's so much conflicting chatter out in groups about who got hit, why they got hit, the types of sites that got hit, the type of content, the type of on page, the type of off page, etc etc etc.

IT IS ALL JUST CHATTER FOR NOW

Remember this rule of thumb with these basic updates … Don’t panic on day one unless you’re completely wiped out. Google says it takes 2 weeks to fully roll out.
So wait for the dust to settle before analyzing your SERP then blindly rushing in to make changes...
Also keep an eye out for a fix, Google can sometimes put out hints. tips as to the cause and how to rectify things.
Sometimes these basic updates have negative effects and sometimes they are positive.

Exactly. this major shuffle could also be similar to the Random Documents Algorithm to get us to panic and do stupid shit marking ourselves as spammers by doing desperate things.

Patience can be a virtue.
