Question about keyword reserach method?

Hello guys,

One of the ways that I test new keywords that I can potentially rank for is by publishing test articles of "1000 words" (well written), and if they rank near page 1, then I update it by writing a much longer/better content version of it.

So, realizing that adding quite a few 1000 words articles "each week", can be considered as thin content.

So, my question is, can this method hurt my SEO? If Google notices that I publish a lot of short articles each week?

I'd love to hear your valuable feedbacks guys.

1000 word articles are not exactly short. You won’t get penalized for this at all (you wouldn’t get penalized for publishing lots of 500-word articles either). In fact, as long as it’s good content, the more you add the better.

IMO that's a pretty safe method.

It works for me on several sites. I post tracer bullet articles and see. If they hit something, I work on improving them.

Pretty much as white hat as it gets.

You're not using short articles but I think you should not publish articles of only 1000 words each week.
Tou should take some fluctuations like 800 to 1500 words of articles.

Yes I have, from that range mostly 800-words articles, original content written by me from scratch.

1K words per post is a decent starting point unless you're targeting transactional kws. Every time you update the post, it would take a couple of weeks to reflect the overall effect in the SERPs.

You can try this by just posting the title. If it’s easy, it’ll show up in the top 30.

There’s no need to write 1000 words. It’s a waste of resources.

I do publish around 2 articles of 1000 words each week + I update an old article that has 1000 words with new content of around 2000 words (each week too)

No, I'm not targeting transactional keywords, but more like "commercial keywords" (ranking articles) and "Reviews". Personally, I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks for the update.

Now, that's thin content? Isn't it? And it might show in the >3 page of SERP.
The idea, is to know the proper volume of keyword, and also see if I have a chance of ranking, if my short article ranks near page 1.

Yes, of course. Top 3. Mostly long tails. This depends a lot on: the authority of your domain and the competition for that keyword. If your domain is not strong and the page 1 serp is full of websites with long articles, you won’t probably rank easily. Try checking for long tail keywords in your niche and see the length of the articles, you’ll probably find a pattern.
