For some reason, the instant messenger of choice for most people on this forum seems to be Skype....is there a reason for that? I would have expected a forum of blackhatters to use something a lot more niche, like XMPP (a classic), Matrix or Tox (which may or may not be used quite frequently by people who may or may not be distributing psychotropics).

What determines your choice of messaging app/platform?

Skype is just the sort of thing everyone owns more less whether young or old alike since one of the first messenger app to become popular after Yahoo messenger died and Microsoft version did as well.

My favorite messenger be Telegram since fast, secure, good groups on it, bots work on them well and a very smart man behind the app as well.

True, true. I was a skype guy in the mid 2000s, but I switched to Google talk for 10 years, 2004-14. Google talk was amazing, I was so disappointed when they replaced that with Hangouts.

Yep I was using Telegram quite regularly (still am tbh) but they're introducing more and more features, and I don't like it lol. I just wanted a text+voice app, I don't want screensharing and video calls and in-app purchases :) I tried out Tox recently and have been trying to coerce all my friends into it. Fun part is the only people I know who have Tox are dealers or people who buy from them.

Interesting I never used Google Talk myself but I sometimes use Google hangouts to do SEO or programmer video calls

True I would not be surprised Russians best programmers in the world normally . Never heard of Tox.

I could see Telegram beating Facebook or Whatapp in the future since most people don't like or trust Zuckerberg over some people believing he's a alien or lizardman or something else but Pavel Durov guy behind Telegram or VK is fairly popular or liked by people around the world .

Since you mentioned black hat I’d go for (rarely) a trending irc alt. but general use is WhatsApp (especially now with multi device option); Chinese suppliers shift me to WeChat; rest of east Asia push for messenger (fb). I’m not a pleaser per se but it helps divide work.

I only use Skype and all my contacts use Skype...
I installed telegram basically for my stepmother and 1 Russian guy... If everybody uses messager xyz, I will use xyz... As if there is a choice... You just go with the flow...
In the early days icq was - the- messenger...
They mostly work the same, you just send some text, files, images or videos... I have no emotional feelings for any messager :-)
