@Festinger Is there a possibility of introducing direct downloads from the vault without installing the plugin? I kind of liked the simplicity of the old vault.

As I cannot edit my previous message, what I suggest users do: create a staging domain and use that as their primary download source.

I see. What I can do here, is that you have a control panel from our main website where you can control your domains as well.
I can create a checkbox there that allows you to enable/disable download/install permissions on a certain domain.
If you want to install items, you can simply enable download permissions for that domain. Will that be helpful?

that will be a great solution but do make the install and download checkboxes as separate as the primary objective is to prevent the downloading aspect and not the installation of new plugins/themes but having the ability to control installs is also a great option as well just in case clients do not pay or do not know know what they are installing causing management headache for the service provider.

Have some queries before I install your new plugin. Can you please answers these.

1. Is the plugin ready to be used on money websites?
2. Should I remove the old Festinger Wordpress 2.0 plugin before installing this new plugin.
3. Can I download updates of previously installed plugins from this new plugin or I have to download updates from the old vault.
4. As an active member of the Wordpress Vault, do I need to make any other changes to my website apart from the ones mentioned above before installing the new Festinger plugin.

Searching for something new is somewhat hard. For example, under wp Themes, we could get integrated builder options like elementor, beaver, visual composer. A submit button will be nice. The interface is a little bit slow including search results.

I thought about your suggestion and there is a concern regarding the install/download permissions. If you grant your customer only access to the installation feature, the file is extracted on his server/website.
They can simply install this plugin and get the file for free: https://nl.wordpress.org/plugins/download-plugins-dashboard/

If you have a solution/workaround in mind, feel free to share it, so I can examine the possibilities in here.

1. Yes - but if you want a full version, please wait until next week, as I am rolling out a new update with all bugs fixed. The update will be auto-applied to every plugin installation, so feel free to use this version as well.
2. Yes, you can remove the old 'auto-update' plugin.
3. You can fully download them from the new plugin. The system works like this: it checks for already installed themes and plugins based on the item's slug.
   If a match is found, it will be added to our auto-update management page. If no match found, you can simply install it from the repository.

I don't think it is of a concern since the customer had to go thru the hassle to perform extra steps to get the files he want and not everyone is that tech savvy to find that workaround, if anyone competent enough wants to download anything I guess there still other methods of obtaining, what we are doing here is just to make it harder. Psychologically if you have the download function disabled such that it does not appears to be downloadable (like the Download button totally not visible as compared to just being grayed off) on the install area itself then nobody will ever think that its possible to download anything... hence will not think of other ways to circumvent to download.

I guessed if you want to take a step further, while the vault plugin is active... will it be possible to detect the install of above such plugin and prevent it from installing?
