Well seeing that it's a lazy kind of Sunday I thought I'd share a story with you lot.

The other month i got a flyer in the door telling me about a sale that will be happening in a hotel down the road from me. Basically said that the operators of the sale were closing down their business and had to sell all their stock at knock-down prices. It was on a Sunday so I took a drive down there with GF and a coupe of our friends to have a look-see. Was so shocked at the amount of money this guy was making every hour.

He kind of bull****ed on the flyer tho. It was actually a raffle of stuff that came from who knows where! But this guy had charisma and great persona; he was actually very funny and entertaining. He was flogging stuff like ipods and cologne and top notch items tbh. He had refreshments available for adults and their kids. Nice champagne too, I became quite tipsy after a couple of hours! He was obviously not releasing the goods for the raffle until he had made a lot more than the item was worth. I'd say he made at least a high 4 figure sum profit for his day's work.

Got me thinking, I regularly buy stuff from alibaba.com and struggle to get a decent sales price for the items on ebay with all the competition etc.

The raffle idea might be a far better way to go methinks! You could travel the length and breadth of the company doing this week in week out and get quite rich quite quickly. Would require a large start up capital tho :( (que JV) :)

anyone ever done this or personally know somebody who has

Probably not in the states where raffles and lotteries are regulated. Perhaps some other country where the regulations and laws are not so strict.

Ever heard of Swoopo or knockoutbid? My husband and I were browsing around the site and figured that with they way it works, they would make mad money off bids, then just drop ship the prize. We thought about doing something like this (a raffle or contest) with some cool items. There's a bunch of colleges and schools around here so we were thinking.

Anyway, if you were going to do something like this offline. I would rent some cool stuff from Rent-a-Center or whatever, just for display. Tell the winners that they will recieve their prize (or a very similar subsitute) shipped to them within whatever time frame. Then, dropship or buy it and ship it to them. You would have to make sure our contest will generate enough money to get the item, though.

I just thought of that off the top of m head. Sounds like it may work.

Raffles are illegal unless they are for charity or for the state government, so going large scale may get you in some legal trouble.

Perhaps in the States, but not in Ireland ;)
