Man, you're making me laugh so hard . They have applications, the first three are privacy-centric. Monero is a big name in the dark web and many marketplaces only use Monero nowadays.

That's an absurd thing to say.
There are as many ways to make money reliably with crypto as there are in DM or SEO.
And just like digital marketing, most people are gonna make less than no money. But it's def not like gambling unless you do zero research and jump into a public exchange acting like a noob daytrader.
There are very exciting things happening in deFi right now. Very exciting things.
Ask yourself why it costs 10$ in gas to send an ETH transaction right now.

I didn't say it was a smart investment, I said there were exciting things happening.
Perhaps the foundation and the dev community in general are moving too fast and there's a possibility for a big security fuckup, seeing as how they've got nation-state level rivals at this point.
Then again, running a qualified node could be quite profitable if the POW jump ever happens. I dunno. I just hear things. Hodling not my scene anyway. But if it's yours, BTC seems wise : )
