So I bought this account from BHW recently. My first post I made received 600 likes, great. Second post I made 1300 likes, amazing!

Now my recent posts, only receive 200~ likes, and I checked the reach, and it has a significant drop in non-followers reach. Essentially, my latests posts aren't being shown to non-followers.

I checked my hashtags from other accounts and I can still see my posts there. Plus when I check my insights, it does say "reach from hashtags: 5 (or something)" so I am getting shown to hashtags, but 5 reach from hashtags seem incredibly low. Is this a shadowban?

I don't understand what could have possibly happened. Can anyone shed light on this?

Regards,

Poetk

I was wondering the same thing. Is there a way to find out if you have been shadowbanned? And is there a documented way to get out of shadowbans?

If you were shadow banned your posts wouldn't be visible in the hashtag and would receive 0 hashtag impressions. Your recent posts must not have done as well with the first batch of your account's followers that it was showed to (they liked and commented less) so it was not pushed to followers of the hashtags you used.

The only way to see if you are shadow banned is to get on an alternate account and see if the picture you posted shows up in either the "Top" or "Recent" sections of the hashtags you used.

Hey man thanks for the reply. I have IG on my phone (app) so I can switch between accounts quickly. I switched to my personal account and under "Recent" I was able to see my business IG account's posts in certain hashtags.

Now Regarding your statement about how my recent posts must have not done as well, it's very possible, because I switched up the style of the post (same niche still, but different style of post), and it may have received a different reaction.

I can't be doomed to just post in the same style that I bought the account from now, will I?

You're welcome. In my experience, most major changes to an account lead to an initial drop in engagement. If this change you made is truly better for your account in the long term then just fight through this initial drop and your engagement should recover due to the increased quality of your new content.

Instagram has just changed the algorithm again and everyone/almost everyone is experience a drop in reach and engagement right now. I say hang in there till it gets better.

I appreciate the support guys. In you guys' opinion, should I keep the posts with the low engagements on my page and keep posting the new contents I want to post until engagement gets better?

If I've been shadowbanned, could I have received those reaches from hashtags?

The fact that you have any impressions at all shows you're not shadow banned.

I would keep the low engagement content simply because it's similar to the content you will be posting in the future. I don't think you want people to see a new post, like it enough to check out your page, then see everything else posted to the page is completely different. New followers gained from a post will want to see that they'll be consistently getting content that's in the same vein as whatever brought them to you in the first place.

Feel free to use the "thanks" button in this forum for any posts that are helpful ;).
