Some similar affiliates website theme always have big banner at the upper part of the homepage which is very wasting place. I just want to list the categories in the uppoer part of the homepage.

Yes, this is the right way to do it. There is no such way to handle automatic updates.
If you need a new version, you can request one through my website and it will be updated mostly within 24h.
Besides that, 30-40 items per day are daily updated.
