Just got my first client but...how do I make a website or someone else?

So someone is paying me to make a simple website. I don't think the creation of the website should be any problem but I don't know how to "give" it to them. Do I pay for the domain name + hosting and then transfer it to them somehow? Or do they pay for it and give me the details. I've only made 2 websites before a long time ago. I accepted the work because the site itself is quite simple. I want to use wordpress for it btw.

You should've specified that in the meeting with them. Next time don't be scared to tell them that they must pay for domain and hosting. Give them your referral link to Siteground and earn $50 commission.

So probably ask them would they buy the domain first, if yes ask for the hosting account for installing WordPress [don't forget to change Name servers of domain] after installing WordPress you are good to go

Main point: if domain + hosting you are buying make sure you add all the costing in your package

Also if you didn't receive any kind of payment up front, you could register the domain and when you are finished and got paid, you transfer the domain and passwords to your client.

I would just have them register the domain and pay for hosting then just give you login information to set it all up. You could setup a reseller hosting account so this and future clients pay you directly for an additional revenue stream.

That's an idea, but prepare to be out of pocket if the client changes their mind for any reason.

This is also a very good idea. Great extra income if you're going to do this kind of work for other clients as well in the future. I made a mistake years and years ago when I did this and didn't monetize hosting to myself. I just referred clients to other company and that was a mistake.

If doing reseller hosting then learn how to set up on a digital Ocean droplet, it'll save you a lot of cash in the future. $5 droplet should host 3-4 small sites per month

Wordpress websites are really easy to set up (in my opinon). There are plenty of templates out there that are free and also still good looking. Colorlib has a lot of them available for free.

It literally look me less than an hour to set up a demo site for my client the other day one of the Colorlib WP themes. Good luck!
