Hello everyone

I have a fairly good idea about SEO theoretically and it's variable factors that affect traffic etc. I am yet to put it into practice because I 'know of' SEO but I don't 'know it'. Having said that, I was wondering about the following:
"The ultimate goal for any online marketer is to receive unlimited amd targeted quality traffic. Therefore, he or she goes about doing SEO in order to achieve that goal."
The aforementioned SEO can be done white hat or black hat but if white hat SEO means longevity and stability of any given business area then why black hat? I am probably mistaken but isn't back hat SEO more prone to getting flagged or worse, shut down or banned?
What's the difference between white hat SEO and black hat SEO?

Thank you for answering :)

Any type of SEO is basically going against the rules because you are manipulating google to try to rank better. That said you can possibly find it a lot easier and cheaper to do black hat seo while white hat can be really expensive or take you a lot of time to get links.

Thank you very much for your response. I agree it's a mechanism whereby we are directing our targeted clients to our business related site(s). Would we call it manipulation though? I mean, manipulation is where we use just about any way in order to accomplish our goals. Is optimizing our website with quality content, correct link building, social signals that are within the parameters of acceptance by big G and Facebook and so on so forth, called manipulation or perhaps it's the only way to do SEO?

Everything is manipulated. Even big companies with deep pockets are hiring many independent teams, and companies and those hired groups are using black hat methods to get the results. Just like anything, there is always a safe way and a wreckless way of doing things. You can use black hat services safely to rank, and then run ads to get legitimate traffic after.

Isn't safe ranking with black hat services a sort of an oxymoron? Please forgive the novice questions, it's just that whenever I come across something, the definition of which is the complete polar opposite to it's nature, confusion sets in. Hence, I ask :)

It is, but it's being done everyday by people on this forum via the marketplace lol no problems. Nothing wrong with asking :)

SEO link building methods are all on a spectrum, there's low risk, there's very risky, and there's everything in between. When people say "safe" they are actually meaning to say low-risk SEO ranking methods (unless you're just talking about things like on-page SEO optimization and the likes..)

Thank you all for your generosity and support. This is the reason besides so many more reasons that Black Hat Forum is like a gift one unwraps everyday! Thank you BHW

White Hat is when you improve your site content to improve your Google Placement.
This is totally normal and within Google's rules.
Because Google is concerned about the quality of the top-ranked sites, the owners usually improve the content.
Google focuses entirely on the user experience. If your content is bad for a user, it probably will not appear in the top rankings.
Black Hat is moreover, you leave these basic things and depart to the most advanced and against Google's rules.
A lot of people do PBN, which is usually the creation of a blog in an expired domain that creates content (articles) for your main site.
This is against Google's rules and if caught it will be punished.

Simple answer is, White hat SEO would recognize by search engine and it is also follow the search engine terms and conditions. Black hat SEO braking search engine rules. so no point to do black hat SEO.

From what I understand, black hat SEO is a faster way to land money but may and has resulted in many a ban on the Google based networks due to infringement of their TOS. Nonetheless, black hat SEO paves a way for faster success and if done appropriately then the sites etc will continue to generate an income.
White Hat SEO on the other hand has all the bells and whistles which agree and abide by the TOS of Google so the chances of getting screwed is lesser. It is however extremely tedious and there's aren't any guarantees of not getting banned by the G.
I suppose both have long time benefits of done right and black hat SEO is pretty much like working smart rather than working tediously.
