Hi!

I have a lot of experience with growing Instagram accounts, and this is going to be my first print on demand webshop journey. I plan to share the process and my thoughts on my journey and a few topics that are related.

My goal is to reach 1,000$ / month with Printful and Etsy ( supported by an Instagram account ).

Why Etsy?

In my opinion it is better than Shopify for beginners. It is a lot cheaper and it’s easier to drive traffic to your shop. Etsy also has Printful integration just like Shopify.

My niche for this journey is healthy food which means the audience mainly consists of young or middle-aged women from the West, so the audience is pretty “Etsy friendly”.

If everything goes well, I plan to open a Shopify store in addition to the Etsy one.

Why Printful?

Good reputation, Etsy integration and wide-variety of products. I have ordered a tote bag as a sample and I was satisfied with the quality (not so much with the shipping time).

The biggest downside is that I have to handle customer complaints, but hopefully I will be able to manage that. If you think this is too time-consuming, I would suggest Amazon merch.

Quality or quantity?

I prefer quality over quantity. I just feel like I want to sell something that is more unique. I think it is better for the long run.

I have hired a talented graphic designer to create cute food illustrations for me.

I will start with 5 illustrations and of course order more later.

Social media

The shop is going to be supported by an Instagram shoutout page of mine, which was created a few months ago for this purpose and now has around 40k followers.

The name and logo for the shop is going to be the same as my IG accounts name.

Mockups

I really don’t like the product mockups from Printful, so I am going to use Placeit for that.

Right now I am waiting for the illustrations, but will keep you updated when something interesting happens!

Please comment if you have any tips or questions!

Update #1

I have received the illustrations for the products.

I am going to create + activate listings on Etsy and my girlfriend will order a few products for samples. This way I will not only receive the merch to check quality, but she will give me 5 star reviews on the products.

The next step will be to advertise.

Simple and easy. You are planning to grow your account just with that 40k account? Anyways, good luck!! I'm positive you will achieve this in no time.

Thank you!

I am also going to try Etsy’s advertisement system. I’ve seen mixed reviews on it so I’m not so sure, but there is no harm in trying.

how it going just read all the thread such intresting idea.

Intresting! Following! Also you could get mockups from mockup websites etc

Great journey to post about. Interested in hearing more.

Thank you for all the replies! A few things have happened since my last update.

Update #2

I have created my store with only a few products and received the sample order with the t-shirts from Printful.

I have chosen the unisex Bella + Canvas 3001 t-shirts and I have no complaints. The quality is okay, kind of a tee from H&M. The material is thin, it is true to size and the print quality is really good. But unfortunately it smells like vinegar..

I did not try Placeit because I have found out that there are pretty good mockups on Etsy for an affordable price. Around 5$ each.

More products are needed for more chance

So far I have only sold a few products, which is I think partly because the store is still new with only one review, but mostly because I have only 5 products in the store at the minute.

I plan to buy a lot more designs next week and triple the amount of products. My future plan is to have at least a 100 products.

Will update you if more happens!

Great stuff. Any updat regarding Etsy advertisement system?

Thanks!

Well, I use it and it is pretty great (I have set it to 0.10$/click). It is cheap and IMO the best way to advertise.

With Google Shopping on the other hand I barely get any impressions. My daily budget is set to 1$, but no clicks yet...

Thanks for the update mate.
So you got some sells with only 5 products in your store. That is definitely motivating. I truly see fantastic oppertunity and you should get more products asap. Actually, I am also planning to restart with Etsy very soon :)

Hey!

How is your store doing?
I'm new in USA, opening my company just now, did you open an LLC?

Congrats and good luck on your jouney!

Just a quick heads up:

It has become a passive income, I do not upload new designs, just promoting the existing ones.

I receive a few orders every week, so it’s not bad.
