I agree with you maybe it's not a hit just some websites got a boost and others not. regarding the "high exact anchors", google do not treat all the websites the same, I dont think the Algo is "linear". the big authorities always get special treatment so what works for them will not necessarily work or even be allowed for small websites without any real aythority.

Yes, seeing plenty of that. The results are currently a bit of a clusterf*ck. Not likely they will change significantly until another large update IMO

Damn, I feel stupid. I had the same text (256 words) on 75 category pages. I removed it yesterday and I can see instant results today. Probably a duplicate text penalty.

On the back of this update I have done an extensive post-mortem of a client's website and found that the blog had indeed been hit by the Yoast Plugin Bug with over 1000 img attachments being indexed. Has anybody else on here had the same issue and implemented Yoast's advice? I am adding the Index Purge Plugin but does this require I manually submit the XML sitemap containing the 410 request?

I had the same problem. So I switched to another SEO plugin with attachment redirect function. but it took almost one month to get rid of thoes pages from SERP

I have been out off SEO for a year now, i still have a view sites and what i found is that longterm keywords moved about a bit and now everything is returning to the old places in the rankings while i did nothing

Your results are in allign with 90% of what I see. Except for a couple health sites.

You can speed up the process by uploading a sitemap with all those 301 urls. You can also manually remove the urls in Webmaster Tools. But that's a lot of work.

I have this issue as well. The fucking idiot developer made all the image attachment pages redirect to themselves and a whole lot of them got indexed in Google. I believe they were previously redirecting to the post or page they were located on, AND they attachment pages themselves were noindexed (the images can still get indexed in image search, just not the attachment pages).

I changed the plugin and I am going to ping all the media pages that are indexed in Google and see if that will get rid of them.

Just can't believe they would remove such an important option from one of the most popular SEO plugins of all time. Joost is a goddamn moron.

HOPEFULLY this will fix up my rankings, because I know my content is much better than 90% of my niche. I get paid a lot of money to write and do research, there is no way my competitors should be getting away with $2 foreign articles outranking me.

Just goo to goole.com and enter site:yourwebsite.com and see if you got some wierd pages in SERP. Or go to Webmaster Tools and take a look at ages in index.

I got a plugin called SEOPress which does all the same things. It has a very nice user interface without all the added bullshit free plugins tend to have.

I checked that one out, it looks like it pretty much does the same kind of thing (where you can decide what happens to attachment pages when images are uploaded.

Most of the SEO experts are suggesting this is not one change but a bunch of updates all at once designed to confuse.

It's certainly one of the worst updates in a while with spammy sites heading to the top and quality sites dropping. I am sure google are working hard on fix this.

I am also hearing maybe AI is fully taking over, which could explain some of the poor results. Hopefully the machines are learning quick!!

I think we will see ongoing corrections but the game has not changed, analysis the sites above you and make sure your doing a better job.

Once the dust has settled, I am confident the cream will raise to the top once more.

Do you have any credible sources to your statement regarding the SEO experts? i.e. links and any credible data? Or is this all guesses and maybes like most of what I see here.

so I thought google likes the site.
fast forward came August and I lost over 75% of traffic with this update.
I still rank for the main keyword between position 8-11, but not with homepage like before, but with some random archive page which makes no sense.
that's why it seems like a penalty, makes no sense why google would rank that page and ignore the strongest page.
anyone else noticed something similar?

after I started to look into any possible site issues, backlinks etc, I noticed 2000 spam links from .ru subdomains. however, when I would visited a reported page I wouldn't
find any links to my site which would be strange. I suspect a negative seo attack and I quickly created and uploaded a disawow file around two weeks ago, however no improvement yet,
I even tanked a bit more last week

can you check the percent ratio of exact match backlink for your primary keyword as compared to the top 3 . you can use free semrush to do this. see how many referral domains they have and how many of them use exact match keyword.

Whats your niche, do you have analytics installed?

can you check the percent ratio of exact match backlink for your primary keyword as compared to the top 3 . you can use free semrush to do this. see how many referral domains they have and how many of them use exact match keyword.

I managed to just check how many exact match anchor BLs I have and the number is quite low (around 50 in 2k+ of total links)

the niche is connected to health
