We've hit a point where cryptos are now getting more mainstream.

With everyone trying to evaluate what to invest in I think its worth posing the question to everyone here experienced in this space, to give some noobs an idea of what to think about before investing:

What cryptos hold more value to you?

Mineable coins?
Staking coins?
ICO-esque tokens?
Coins with planned burns?
Utility Tokens?
Asset Tokens?
Platform based tokens (ETH, OMNI, NXT, etc)?

Any of these or other qualifications that determine the value. Which matter to you most?

It must be decentralized. It must have visible operations. It might be good to be tied to some concrete assets like real estate , gold!! , or stocks. It should use resources [i.e. solar energy, computer power] that are easily available in any country.

Since I couldn't edit this in:

Does Coin supply matter to you?

Does Scarce (BTC, LTC, XRP) coins matter more than Inflationary (XMR, ETH, DASH, PIVX) coins?

The corrupt governments of the world is the main problem

Haha and why is that? I think that's valuable to know for someone to read this comment

It's probably because I missed out on the real big profits.

And now MSM and hipsters get involved acting like they discovered something new annoys the shit out of me.

I still think it's gonna burst once people start selling off in force.

I don't know why the elites, governments and banks are allowing this but they always have a motive and that usually ain't good.

They already want to get rid of physical money and now society is helping in that.

Plus I rather hold something in value that isn't dependent on electricity, internet, passwords and block chains, like gold, silver, real estate.

another problem that i see is that they can all be shutddown, blocked or made illegal by governments and there's nothing you can do about that

I go by hype level.

I check Twitter and stuff, the more hype around it, the more it'll go up. That's the law of cryptos it seems, there is really nothing behind any of these coins except hype.

I am more in the holding side of crypto rather than the day trading/flipping side so I look for coins that will allow Staking. My thinking is that I will be holding the coin as its value goes up anyway so anything earned from Staking is a nice bonus. I also look for good communication channels with their communities too as well as try to find out about the main guys in charge of the project.

Somewhat agree! Worked for me. On Twitter, everyone was talking about VERTCOIN last week. I just bought 1 coin when it was $5.10 now it's $7.59

one more coin (POWR) it was .54 now 0 .71

Decentriwlized coins that have a mainstream use, such as smart contracts.

It's totally true. Whichever coin gets the most hype and publicity is the one which will go up the most. Bitcoin may not have the best technology compared to other coins, but they have the hype because they were the original coin and have gone up so much in price. Every time a new investor enters the crypto world generally from this the first coin they will look to buy is BTC. Obviously, a good way to get hype whilst in such a crowded market place now is by having a good team and concept which can actually be used in the future. For the record, I picked up POWR at 0.52 last week but this is a long term hodl for me until they actually launch their platform (as I belive this has a use)

Do you mind sharing who to follow for the latest hype around coins?

I had an idea to write a program that checks search engines and social media for mentions of all popular alt coins. Then plot all the data into a graph and purchase coins that get mentioned the most.

If you manage to create that, it'd probably be a great indicator for trading.
