I'd suggest none at all, people choose .com as a personal preference and as it's the most recognised TLD, used by big businesses etc too.

I have .org and .net domains outranking EMD with the .com below mine in SERPS.

Generic TLDs like .com .org .info etc each of them are to mean different types. Like .com for commercial .org for organization. But people find it .com domains are way more brandable than other domains so they prefer this over other TLDs. Although it has 0 effect on SEO, unless they are ccTLDs.

You can use and rank any domain tld you like. I think just the length of the name before the tld helps and how specific the name is.

No difference really but I did make a blog with a .blog domain and it does appear that the new extensions count as keywords in searches.
So, say you have a EMD with a .blog extension, it's very easy to rank if people type 'emd blog' into google, if it's a topic people look for blogs on.
I'm sure the other extensions have similar benefits.
