For my new PBN I thought I would try hunting down expired domains based on https://ahrefs.com/blog/seo-metrics/. There have been numerous threads posted on the forum regarding how to find expired domains, anylizing metrics, checking history, etc. What I'm sharing here is my technique that I've had success with, which focuses on using Ahrefs to find good domains.
Tools for Checking Domain Metrics
https://ahrefs.com/ - I use Ahrefs for the majority of my expired domain checking. The goal for me is to find domains that are DR 40+ with 90%+ of backlinks should be the URL and the website should of course not have been used for spam in the past.
https://majestic.com/ – The Trust Flow (TF) and Ref Domains are what people like to use but for I don’t really care about these metrics. Ahrefs is more accurate when it comes to Referring Domains and often times I will see many backlinks on Ahrefs for a domain that are not in Majestc.
https://moz.com/ – Used for checking DA/PA, I don’t really care about these either.
Step 1. Find a Good Website to Crawl.
So what we want to do is crawl the site and look for domains that have expired. For this you need to use the 'Grab links by crawling a site' function in scrapebox. Just type in the URL above and click start. After scrapebox is completed, take a look at the list and find out what pages you need to remove to get the best results.
In this case the submitted domain seems to be in this format:
http://www.addyoursitefreesubmit.com/view_detail/21682/
Now, we have a list of several thousand links like the one above.
Step 3. Check for Expired Domains.
Scrapebox has a new Premium Plugin called http://www.scrapebox.com/expired-domain-finder for checking if domains are expired. It's expensive... Plus you have to pay for Majestic memebership.
Currently, I am using https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/domain-hunter-gatherer-find-expired-domains-and-web2-0-accounts.747592/ It allows you to get the Majestic and Moz stats and finds expired domains. So, load up your list into DHG and set the crawl level to 1, load from file your list and sit back and wait. You also want to set your filters to keep anything with TF5+ Ref Domains 10+, and TLDs of .com, .org, .net.
Here are the results in about an hour:
Step 4. Check metrics in Ahrefs
I filter my domains in DHG by TF score and then paste them 200 at a time into the Ahrefs Batch Analysis. I then sort the domains by DR and take them.
When you find a domain with DR 40+ paste it into Ahrefs Site Explorer and take a look at the:

Step 5. Domain History
Check to see how many times the site was owned and what content was put on it. The ideal domain for me is one where one person owned it for 10+ years, it expired and nobody else bought it. Usually it’s a Restaurant, Hotel / Inn, Band, Clinic, Cooking Blog, Company, etc.

Conclusion
Most people buy and sell domains using Majestic and Moz metrics but often times I will see many backlinks not indexed in Majestic and MOZ that are indexed in Ahrefs. Let me warn you though, finding a domain with DR40+ with a clean history and good backlinks is very hard. Often times the Majestic TF is high when the Ahrefs DR is low or vice versa.
After a few weeks of hunting I found about 15 .com domains that are TF 20+ and DR 35+ with clean histories. Many times you will find a domain with DR 40+ and TF < 10. This is usually because the backlinks are not counted in Majestic for some reason but are counted on Ahrefs. Other times I will find TF 25+ domains with Ahrefs DR < 20.
