Youtube Journey to Backpacking the World

Today is my day off! Woo! Will hopefully get everything I want to get done today. All I really want to do right now is edit all of the videos that are down and reupload them. It'll probably take me a couple of hours to go through them all. I realllllyyyy don't feel like making any new videos, but I might have to since there's not really much else for me to do.

My media buy campaign is all setup except one key component which is getting my tracking pixel on the vendor's page. I refuse to start a campaign without solid tracking in place.

Still trying to get my tracking pixel on the page I need. I emailed them 2-3 months ago and they said they would be able to do it but now they haven't responded to my last email. I just sent another one in hopes that they respond to this one since my campaign is basically built around one product. There are probably a couple other products I could use, but this one looks like the best choice.

As of last night all the videos I uploaded were still alive, but I'm yet to check today. Managed to make $25 yesterday which is more than I'm used to, so that's a good sign! I may try and rank a couple videos soon. I figure since I'm saving a ton of money this month by not drinking I could at least invest some money into IM.

Just bought social bookmarks for 20 videos. Let's see if anything happens over the next couple of weeks

Ok. I still haven't heard back from that vendor, so I'm not too sure what to do as far as media buying goes now. I'll come back to this campaign once I do some research on other potential vendors or products I can promote. As of right now I am just working on my membership site. I currently have about 10 pages of content. I plan on getting a ton of content up. Some will be free, most will be for members only. I'm going to charge $19/month. Once most of my content is up and running, I'm probably going to purchase aMember for my membership plugin and also reopen my aWeber account for mailing purposes. I see a ton of potential with this site and think I can easily get 250 members, coming out to $5k/month, which is my goal for this site.

As far as Youtube stuff goes, no new videos are ranking but all the videos are still alive and well. Since I can't start my media buy campaign I might buy some ranking services for some videos instead. First I'm going to wait and see if the social bookmarks do anything though.

That's about it for now. I'm going to get back to adding content to the membership site now. Going to try and get at least 10 new pages up today.

So I just took the plunge and bought aMember. I was looking forward to setting it up, but the download link is giving me a 502 error so I'll have to wait for a response from support. I managed to get 10 pages up today anyway. For some if not all I think I'm also going to make videos. Not sure yet.

Hokay, so... One of my YT vids jumped to 6th place in Google. That's pretty cool. I'm hoping some more start to rank soon too just from the social bookmarks I ordered, but I doubt it will be enough juice for most of them. Time will tell.

I hit $20 in earnings today, so I consider that a success since days like that don't happen very often any more.

As far as the membership site goes, aMember is fully integrated and all setup. I have 10 free posts and 10 paid posts so far. Over the next few days I'm going to be solely focusing on getting more members only posts up, and then start sending traffic soon. I have some other sites in the same niche that get a bit of traffic and I'm going to try sending them over and see if they convert. I'm really excited about this site. It's funny, because I never would have thought creating a membership site could be so easy, and this is just my first one! Even if this one fails, I will know how to setup my next one in a few days. Easy. I think membership sites are the way to go for me for now.

I also have some things I'm working on in the offline world. I'm dedicating a lot of time to becoming an expert in both coffee and wine. I've always had a thing for coffee, but I want to take it to the next level. I want to learn what makes a good cup of coffee. Everything. The beans, where they come from, how to roast them, why to roast certain beans certain ways, etc... As far as wine goes, well, I'm a bartender that knows basically nothing about wine. After watching the movie Somm, which details the journey to passing the Master Sommelier exam which only a few over 200 have passed, I decided I wanted to learn more about wine. I bought The Oxford Companion to Wine which came in the mail today and have been doing some reading and making notes.

Eventually, I want to open up my own high end coffee/wine bar. A cafe has always been a dream of mine, but I think adding wine makes it that much cooler.

EDIT: Lots of videos went down. Basically my entire last batch that I uploaded. Down to 42/124in my over 200 monthly searches campaign. I'll probably eventually try and reupload them when I have the time.

I met somebody a few days ago who's one level below master, but for wine. Apparently it's an impressive accomplishment.

Eventually, I want to open up my own high end coffee/wine bar. A cafe has always been a dream of mine, but I think adding wine makes it that much cooler.

Seems like there could be some issues with offering alcoholic beverages in a place that gets a considerable amount of its customer base between the ages of 17-20, but perhaps not.
And maybe by then the US will have realized its stupidity and lowered the drinking age.

Yea, that would be the advanced level which is still really difficult.

Also, I live in Canada so the drinking age is a little lower, and I know a few coffee/wine bars do exist.

So anyway, things are getting pretty real right now. I just got 13 new pages of private content up. I think I might run some test traffic soon and see what happens. I am going to offer a coupon code to the first 10 members to sign up for just 99 cents for the first month, and then the normal 19.99 after that. I've setup the coupon and all the PayPal stuff. One thing I don't like is that my primary PayPal email shows up on the payment screen. I'm going to see if I can change that somehow. I'm also a little nervous as to weather or not users will be able to cancel their subscriptions properly and if I can manually do it from the aMember admin panel. I'm pretty sure I can. As far as users cancelling on their own though, if they checkout without a Paypal account, and do not make one from the link in the email they receive, I don't think they will be able to manually cancel their subscription. I'll probably test this myself by charging myself one cent and checking out with a credit card.

TL;DR: Worried about PayPal cancellation issues.

As the launch date of this site creeps up, I'm getting more and more nervous. For one, I have no idea if the site will be a success or a failure. Secondly, I'm worried about site issues. Thirdly, I'm worries about angry customers. I really hope everything works out. If not, at least it was a major learning experience I suppose.

EDIT: I also still need to get Twitter followers and/or Facebook likes. I don't have a Facebook account anymore, so I would like to make a new account and make the page there, but I heard somewhere that FB won't allow inactive account to make pages. That may have just been for an advertising account though, so hopefully that's the case.

I plan on getting a lump sum of followers/likes, and then drip feeding over time.

I don't really have any plans anymore as of right now. I'm going to visit my girlfriend in BC after christmas for a few weeks or so but other than that, nothing major. I just don't have the cash to do so right yet. Once I start making a decent, consistent (key being consistent here) income, I will start planning things out again. I assume that won't be for at least a year though. I still may or may not go to the World Cup in Brazil though. I'll have to check in with my friend on that.


As far as work goes, I setup a Twitter and FB page for my membership site. I'll be ordering followers/likes as soon as these providers get back in touch with me. Probably tomorrow. I'm ordering 20k followers and 5k likes. After that, I'm going to get a bit more content up, make the Twitter and fb page look a little more legit, and then start sending a bit of traffic to it.

As far as my YT stuff goes, I haven't bother with reuploading the videos yet. Today however, I decided to implement a viral referral script. The script makes it so the user has to refer 5 people before gaining access to the download, which is actually still locked with a survey. Figured it was worth a shot to at least try it out since it's not making that much money anyway. I also switched my US traffic over to a new network. That may also help with earnings. We shall see tomorrow and in the days to come!

Today has been a lazy day. Mostly just browsed the web. Also downloaded the new VMWare Fusion and Windows 8 since I accidentally deleted my entire Windows 7 VM a little while ago.

As far as the viral script is going, I just realized it was setup incorrectly. People who visited the ref links were being given the old users' ref links as their own, instead of getting their own ref link. Obviously this caused some errors so anybody who came to the site through a ref link would never be able to unlock the site. Anyway, it's all fixed now, so hopefully traffic increases now.

Hey man, I've been following your journey for sometime now. i have tried buying YouTube PVA accounts from fiverr and some top ranking Google sites. No luck so far. They getting banned within couple of days. Not sure if its my proxy supplier.

If you could recommend anybody to try out OVA YouTube accounts and some private proxies, it will be greatly appreciated.

Don't give up hope. It may be the accounts, the proxies or a handful of other things. Right now, my videos are getting deleted too. I don't think it's the accounts, I think they are getting flagged because they have more competition.

That being said, I just bought another batch of 100 accounts. What I plan to do is duplicate 1 of my videos with a higher traffic keyword 5-10 times, giving each on their own title, tags, description, keywords and links. Hopefully a couple of them survive, and if so, I will move to the next video until they are all online.

Viral script isn't doing much yet, but I'm going to let it run for a few more days.

Membership site still needs more content before I start sending any traffic to it. Also waiting on my followers/likes to be completed.

Ordered some ranking services for 3 videos. 2 of them are my 2 highest competition videos but they have a huge amount of monthly services. They total up to about 150k monthly searches combined. The third video has about 15k monthly searches. I really don't know if they will rank, but who knows? If I can rank these videos I should be laughing!

Anyway I think that you can dominate each niche if you are patient enough.
Ranking a video is simpler than ranking a website so if you wanna reach the #1 spot on Google, just rinse and repeat.

Rinse and repeat unless you are FIRST.

Decided to get rid of the viral script. It's not helping at all. It's just preventing my users from seeing my surveys and costing me money. I'm hoping that the new US offer I'm promoting will make more money than the last one I was using. It would be nice to have at least a consistent $20-$30/day coming in again.

Still waiting on my followers and likes for the membership site. The guy providing the followers isn't responding to my emails it seems. Hopefully he does soon. The guy providing the likes will probably have it done in the next 24 hours or so.

I was wondering why no US clicks were coming in... I added the offer to the wrong locker. Gotta love stupid mistakes like that!

Followers and likes are complete on the membership site. I'm going to wait a few days to see if they stick and also update with some new content. It's almost ready for testing! Really anxious.

As far as CPA stuff goes, didn't make much yesterday. Less than $10. Boo.
