Youtube: Crazy views, low impression, and ad-views - Need advice!

Hey guys I could really use some advice with this one.

I'll start with the story of what is happening and then I'll put in some of the evidence.

In Oct 2022-Dec 2022, I got one of the largest boosts in views that my channel has ever gotten. Sadly it didn't result in pretty much any earnings increase. In fact, I earned less than I usually do these months(since these months are the top RPM months of the year due to Christmas).
Talked to a ton of other creators who had the same issue during this period of time. Forbes even wrote an article about it labeled:

I've been trying to get Youtube to give me some details, but all they gave early on was that it was a "bug" and they were fixing it. Well, that amount should have garnered me a good $20k at least and I've yet to see this fix
I got really demoralized and started working on other stuff, views just crashed, but RPM stabilized and things at least started to look normal again.
I am in the kid's niche and there is 0 copyright on my stuff it's 100% my own creations.
Fast forward to April and I decided to just go ham. I started working 18hrs a day on videos(animation takes forever so it might sound much but really isn't ).
I now see things starting to pick up again, but the same issue, RPM goes down into the gutter. I'm trying to get Youtube to answer questions, but all I get is these generic copy-pastes of how the analytics work and what they show. Well, when they contradict each other like this I don't see how that information is even useful.

So here are a few graphs showing what I am talking about:
Green Impressions, Purple Views.



As you can see it looks quite similar. Usually, you always get 2-3x the amount of impressions in comparison to views. But I get a boost and I do earn good RPM stays the same, then it drops down and after that, it starts to pick up again but RPM/impressions/ad impressions stay low.
It is driving me crazy because nowhere can I find analytics stats that really point out the issue for me.

Looks pretty much the same as the previous one. You can see that initial boost and then DOOM

Here's a graph of Views / RPM.
As you can tell RPM is pretty much $1+ being normal, some videos have 0.5$ some have $2.5 if they're compilation 30min+ which 2 of the 3 garnering the most views rn are, but have a RPM of about 0.20-0.30.

Ridiculous I know. January is always a drop. Then it is usually stable on/above $1.



I've done this for 9 years now, I have other channels too and they have had their own issues from time to time but this is ridiculous. It's almost as if one would buy views, but it's a large mix of browse and suggested, then other views too so it doesn't look like it would be the case. When this happens CPM does increase like crazy too.

I need your big brains on this one BHW. I literally got $30 for 120k views on the last daily update.

Views still climbing like crazy and I don't intend to stop working, but how do I not get demoralized from working for 2 months and then seeing this bump and I earn less than I did on 10-20k views a day x.X

This is fucking silly. How imma get 250k views from 67k impressions?

interested, I'm waiting for a way to get views and special tricks for YouTube and I haven't found it yet. the problem is I'm still a beginner and don't know how to get early views

Haha, not much to be interested in here. No fun getting 250k views when you get $35 for it, when usually when I get 250k views that is about $500

Thumbnail for high click-through, use tags being used by similar videos in the topic, and try to have people watch as much of the video as possible per view. Then upload consistently and eventually the gates will open. Hopefully once they do for you, you'll not get screwed over like this.
I have talked to like 15 other creators having this same issue at the same time back in Oct-Dec.

You said you make animations in the kids niche, im also on this niche, however it's important to know if its kids kids, or many kids watch it but it's not really considered for kids, what I mean is if it's marked as for kids or not. Im assuming it isn't marked as for kids since animation takes an insane amount of effort and content marked as made for kids makes no money so it would be a mental torture to make content for such little money in this field unless you are outsorcing at a massive scale or something, to make money from the peanuts the rpm delivers. I have had content marked as for kids and the video completely plumeted because it gets put next to Baby Shark and stuff like that. I appealed but it got rejected. It made me want to end everything and im no longer motivated to go on. You work so hard on your content and get so far only to wake up at a random day with shit like this it's soulcrushing, and what's worse if after being marked as made for kids they find the tiniest detail like a pixelated gun that's used by everyone else on your top analytics "what your viewers see" channels you get a community strike. This is nonsense and I just want to end this.

Haha yeah everything is marked as for kids. But tbh the rpm I get is usually 1.3-2.5 which is ok because I usually get 200k+ views a day so it's quite ok.

I found the issue in my case here now. With 0 help from the 20 emails and tweets to YouTube about it . I checked YouTube product that I gain views from and apparently my channel is going viral on YT kids... Had about 30k views per he yesterday. Fun, but apparently they don't show any ads there?!?
I don't buy it.
Still no reply from the escalated support ticket to YouTube going on day 3 now.

Yeah I can 100% relate. Its sad, I'm quite good at doing different voices and it's so fun. I make sure to add some quality education in there subtle too. I did one where my character ran an ice-cream stand and a bit of inflation understanding sprinkled in there

I probably going to have to divert, was gonna do all my videos in Spanish now and also an entirely new kid's channel. But this was pretty much the nail in the coffin. I'll probably just make compilations of what I've already done to keep the 1 video a week going just to keep the channel alive and pivot to something else.
Very sad, and the no community posting or comments makes it so hard to build an email list or push products too...
I'm in the making of some books to sell on Amazon. Coloring, education etc. But no idea how that's gonna work out.

Guess I'll go do some idiotic Roblox RP shit with my voice talent...

You're not going to find a special trick. Can you game the system? Sure, but will a novice with no experience on YouTube find it? Probably not. There really isn't much more to it than learn by doing.
I can make a kid's channel today and I bet you I'd have a few million views within a month. But only because I know what to target, how to make it entertaining and what thumbnail type to use for this specific audience.
If I go into another niche sure I can use a lot of what I've learnt, but I still have to test until I find exactly what works.

I find it amazing how they can f*ck you up in the animation niche so much which is the hardest to do, meanwhile there's gameplay and family vlog channels with comments enabled that are full of 6yos.

I've always liked doing fun stuff but what I like doesn't fit on the for kids category, the stuff that gets recommended next to my videos that are marked for kids aren't what im going for.

I have no idea about Amazon and I have always dreamed about having some products there. I remember this guy on ***** posted some pictures of his account and he was making like 8k a month on autopilot because he had some ranked products. How could I learn how the Amazon game works?

As far as adding any links on my videos, i've never used links because im scared that they flag you, or that someone decides to claim doing that isn't not legal because muh kids and this and that (meanwhile all famous youtubers have videos for kids). Anyway I just like to make money from ads as long as content goes. Then I would like to diversify into Amazon, but I can't use my content to sell anything on Amazon, like I said it's already so risky not selling anything, that I don't want to put more risk. So I would like a way to sell within the Amazon platform. Is there a way?

I have only once dabbled in selling on Amazon and that was merch. I ended up having some success but I didn't like it so I stopped.
The important thing is to bank a bit and then expand into other things too. I used to run 2 e-commerce, 2 affiliate websites, and 2 youtube channels. Covid I was locked in a country that wasn't my home and I kinda had to sell off the e-commerce stores because I was locked for over a year. Then to get home and get a house etc I had to sell the affiliate ones and now only got YT left. But I am in the rebuilding phase of 2 new affiliate sites. E-commerce was so boring and tedious with customers and shit I dunno if I wanna venture into that again any time soon.

I don't understand how one does get any sales whatsoever. You need tons of traffic to get a tiny % of conversions into sales or affiliate links being clicked at all. Even many influencers don't do much there and depend on ad revenue. How do you go about that being a random dude like we all are here?

As far as diversification, the thing is, if something is working, I think it's better to keep at the same thing than to put energy into a ton of things. I would be animating right now but im depressed since they took my videos down and I feel like im now under review constantly and they'll screw me up even more, I hope im right and they did review the entire channel already and they didn't leave videos unaffected to hit me again later because taht would be just cruel after so many years put into the site.

In my experience we just depend on ad revenue, that's all. Most people make peanuts outside of that. It's just too difficult to convert any traffic into sales, or into patreons and so on, unless you have some sort of cult following.

The idea is to grow and once you grow enough you can add in additional people to help with various tasks to free up time to focus on what actually matters which is running the people and the business
I am not there yet myself. I do outsource as much as I can afford, but the past few years have been one sucker punch after the other. Only thing you gotta do is keep on going, there are no options.

Ecommerce and affiliate is quite nice tbh and even with a smaller following as long as you start focusing on your email lists early on you'll grow your own little cult eventually! And as you go you get seen like an authority. I've adviced the government on things related to my niche here in Sweden just due to me becoming an expert on the topic by writing, analyzing, and studying. I didn't know shit about the topic starting out.

Do you think that someone could be botting your videos?

what source of views appears when views amount is higher than impressions?

But you go on camera and do youtube videos? how else do you reach people if not youtube? people no longer barely read, they just use youtube as google. The thing is I want to be anonymous I don't like being on camera and these things. So I don't see how one would go about that. Powerpoint type videos with no one on camera aren't engaging and would have low watchtime and thus low CTR. The thing is, content is so important to sell stuff. So you either have videos that are engaging and somehow you can promote products around it (basically an influencer and im opposite of that) or you have some sort of great original product that sells well and you have to invest on ads.

I have never invested on ads. I think Facebook looks so convoluted with a million options. How did you learn these things? I only know how youtube works. Basically have good CTR and good watchtime and get recommended, that's all that matters. The rest of online money making stuff seems too obscure to me so I don't get how one would make money beside ad revenue.

Maybe try selling color books/prints on etsy/ebay/amazon, there's a large customer base on etsy for it and you already got the audience. Try making new channels with animation explanations or such niches i have seen many such channels.

this happened recently... a new youtube algorithm all channels went through that. your making your way out of the valley now.
