What are the best plugins to make a site mobile? I use this: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mobile-pack/ Any other suggestions?
Congrtz on first thread in this section. I haven't used any mobile plugins for wordpress, but here are few that I heard are good. For accessing admin panel using mobile http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mobileadmin/ this too might be useful (Theme) http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wptouch/
just fyi - there are two types of mobile sites theres one thats for business and theres one that displays information thats easy to access on a mobile device for example a business mobile site you would expect to have easy navigation that links you to essential information about the business and have features like click to call which is a button that initiates a call to the business, perhaps click for directions which would initiate google maps/navigation on a smart phone, click to sms/email which initiates the appropriate service again on a smartphone. Other things would be opening hours, daily specials, events, etc and of course mobile commerce or mCommerce but thats a different ball game - the business mobile site model is something that you can sell as a service and generate an income like that. the other type of mobile site would be the kind that you would be pushing traffic to it so that you generate an income from it via mobile ads or mobile CPA offers - these type of sites don't typically require such features as click to call, click to email and all the above features i previously mentioned. so going back to wordpress plugins the reason i dont particularly like any of the mobile plugins for wordpress is because they dont easily handle mobile sites geared towards business - they are perfect for the blog/article type of site where you want to install say admob or adsense for google. typically they just output a list of blog/article posts and dont offer out of the box any of the features that i mentioned previously about business. if i have to choose one plugin it would be have to be WPtouch - but only if i was not doing a mobile business site You can easily get $250+ for each sale of business mobile website - right now is a perfect opportunity to become the go to guy in your area since your competition is going to be low. Another cool thing about getting involved in mobile marketing right now is it has such a broad landscape you can easily up sell more services to earn more cash! think about qr codes, sms long and short codess, web apps, mobile apps the list goes on to give you an idea of my background i have been developing for mobile devices since way before the dot mobi domains where around, since before the iphone was a twinkle in steve jobs eye - am talking going back to the days of wap sites and wml. i actually thought when the .mobi domain came out it was the silver lining i had been waiting for however - investors where not ready for mobile over here in the US and i ended up putting some of my project on hold till i decided the market is actually ready for mobile... which was sometime last year in my opinion. so at the turn of this year i quit doing everything else ie SEO, web development, google maps etc to concentrate on mobile and mobile marketing only - so if you have any questions etc i will only be to happy to answer! hope that helps cheers jay PS expect to see me around a lot more now as mobile marketing just rocks!
very informative post ukescuba, thanks a rep have been given i dont mean to take this thread too much off topic but since ukescuba brought up .mobi domains i would like to briefly talk about them how important do you guys think .mobi domains really are going to be? i ask this question because i dont see too many web sites using .mobi domains (not yet at least) i usually see web sites using their normal .com domain as their mobile site, or i see them using a sub-domain such as m.website.com
Is anyone using Trumpia? I'm considering moving to their platform but would like to hear some feedback before signing up,
@virtualprops - Sorry but this has nothing to do with the OP's response to Wordpress mobile plugins - please start a new thread so we can keep this on topic. Hopefully this forum doesn't become another advertising spot for Trumpia, like it is on other forums... personally i think they are overpriced however thats subject for discussion on a different thread... @empire - good question bud start a new thread so as we can keep this one on topic and i will be happy to advise...
Ukescuba, Just realized that they went ahead and added a mobile thread and I'm not advertising in the least for Trumpia was just asking an honest question. Lastly, now that I know that there is a MM thread my question has been posted as a new thread. Chill out dude no harm intended. Oh and thanks I appreciate your comment regarding the "Q!#$!#$" platform.
i wasn't suggesting you where - just that i have noticed some people on this forum all they post about is said company... thanks for your understanding cheers jay
Ukescuba, Thanks for your reply and i'm still curious to know if and what platform you may be using. Please feel to post in the new thread I created. I am currently with a platform which is sticking it to me pretty good and I'm a bit wiser now doing more thorough research. Again Thanks and Tactikal thanks for pushing for a MM section.
Wow, sounds like there are a lot of options being offered above. BTW, http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/baap-mobile-version/ is another one. It looks like WP Touch is adapted to more phones: "iPhone, iPod touch, Android, Palm Pre, Samsung touch and BlackBerry Storm/Torch mobile devices". My question, however, is more toward their business use. Does any of the above work with Click to Call or Click to Map? There are a couple of WP plugins that would be applicable but not sure if they are compatible with the WP mobile plugins above. One is http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/click-to-call-me/ . Does anyone have any experience with this? Tnx, DW
UKESCUBA, Thanks for your post, I feel the same way about mobile website, can you share how you build your mobile sites? Do you set them up on the clients subdomain, or on yours? thanks
I host all my clients sites, previously i would put them in a sub-folder... But having researched in detail what google looks at I simply switch and render the site depending on what type of device is accessing the site... Ie if it's a smartphone it renders with certain features which it doesn't if it's a non smartphone or flip phone even... For example if you link to a dynamic google maps on the iPhone it will work great link to the same one on a not so old blackberry and google maps won't work... Link to it on a flip phone forget it! Lol there are a lot of features that some devices support and don't support, there's no point loading them if a device doesn't support them it can cause the site to not even load or be extremely slow... Another example would be google analytics the regular JavaScript works for most smartphones but not all non smartphones... Doing device detection you can dynamically switch between the JavaScript analytics and the php version which works on non smartphones... Hope that makes sense... To me there's a lot more to building mobile web sites that what people realize... Yeah you can do cheap sites with basic features but bigger paying and bigger clients that's not going to cut it... I guess depending how in depth you want to go with your business and the type of clients you want to have will determine how far you take it... I went 100% mobile at the start of the year been developing a lot of tools to make life easy as in the long run having something you can easily deploy will help you make the $$$ quicker! What you have to remember too mobile is still relatively new so you have every opportunity to become your local go to guy when anyone wants anything mobile related! But start now if your interested if you don't someone else will! Take a look at these - these are my older sites am going to redo them shortly with something I have developed... Which caters for all mobile devices... These specifically cater for iPhone/android only http://www.maddogs.net - has a mobile gallery on there http://www.oakridgebellows.com - has video http://www.thestockyardssaloon.com - is different layout from rest... If you go on them with an iPhone or android it will prompt you to go to the mobile website have also built a couple of sites around joomla as well - but was an absolute nightmare to do! Lol Am currently changing the way I build sites completely and am using my own wordpress plugin/theme that i have developed from the ground up instead - since WP is more light weight and have designed it to work on all phones even old type flip phones! Lol ...someone asked me why would I do that and I replied because I can! Lol I like the challenge and people that know me on here know am very thorough with what I do also I make sure my new sites validate properly too... Many of these plugins and site builders don't! Hope that helps
Mobile is where the future is! Currently Google estimates that 50% of all searches are done with a smart phone. So what does that mean to you? Easy create a generic site for a loval business in your area, for example, best Florist in Richmond Virginia. Create it in wordpress include the call me plug-in, add the mobile conversion button. Most likely you can get this easily on the first page of google. Then email or snail mail to Florists in your area and sell them the site to the first to respond (200.00). Now, think of all the "young adults" and what would they be looking for? Pizza, Movies theater, latest xbox games and game cheats... Or you could create the site simply to promote Clickbank products that serve a particular immediate need....like the game cheats. I'm sure there are a few dozen other ideas, that's just off the top of my head. MOBILE RULES!!!
Has anyone here used Mobile LPS? It looks awesome but is a little pricey so it would be nice to know if it's worth the price.....
I have been using WP Touch on a large site I have that is getting almost entirely mobile traffic now. It is not a business site, its a content oriented site. It has now been earning a small bit with adsense for mobile. WP Touch was the quick and easy solution, it works, I wish it were more easily customizable but I haven't sprung for the paid version. But it was pretty easy, install, activate, click a few things, plug in your adsense id, boom start earning off mobile traffic.
