Wordpress! Is It Really for Noobs?

I`m a N00b and wordpress helped me out, but there is a site called diythemes (down atm) That can help you out making it a bit more interesting :)

Since I have already said it handles posts very well, I concede your point about them. However, if I write an article about this past election and use a page title along the lines of " What is up with the American Media" and write an article about the lack of professionalism in journalism today, the heading of the article needs to be the H! tag and support the article, not the attention getting headline.

Also, If I use the H1 tag I get something like this:
What's up with the American Media?

when I need something like this:

What's up with the American Media?

In order for it not to look like a 6th grader did it.

Since the theme allows different line heights for each title tag, it throws off the alignment of the article every time you use a heading. H1 title will have more space under and above it than an H2 or H3. causing the article to look like crap. Lord help you if you actually want to use the h-tags and keep all the titles the same size, YOU CAN'T DO IT.

Well, if you know coding, you can change the CSS for the tag, or you can add inline styles to the heading tag, but then you can wind up with a tag nested inside another tag because the theme has an assigned tag for the space you just used.

Also depending on the theme when you use an inline font statement the entire font statement gets carried to the nav menu, so if you use a h1 tag for a page title, the page title is huge in the menu.

I spent an hour yesterday getting one paragraph to display right because the damn theme kept floating the text to the right of the h2 tag title. Only did this on 1 of four h2 tags in the article, and I had to end up putting a <br><p></p><br> just to get the damn thing to display like the other tags in the same paragraph.

The fact that you have not ran into these issues tells me you are a fill in the space kind of guy or girl, that's all. You take the theme and fill in the blanks, and call it a site with SEO. Of course that perfect article you wrote and put on the page, added to all the text that your global areas toss into the page has now changed the focus of your SEO because your on-page SEO uses all the text on your page to figure out what the site is about. All those archives, related posts, and other crap is diluting the article and page focus, but I guess you figure that Google will simply read the content section and grade your page on it only. You must be special, for most of us, the entire page content is counted, global areas and all.

And if you are so comfortable using a WP theme, why do you assume that you must build an HTML page from scratch. There are far more beautiful HTML templates than WP themes, and they do not lock you into sidebar-content-sidebar, or sidebar-sidebar-content, or whichever option your theme offers.

As for the "incapable" statement, where do you get that? I'm incapable because I see the faults with this platform rather than gushing like a schoolgirl about it's power? Because I actually know SEO, and seeing the problems that WP has, pointed them out?

I actually use WordPress quite a lot. I am not incapable of fixing it, I just do not see the need to spend hours trying to defeat default behavior. When I can build a fill in the blank site I do. I have 5 page business sites that I clone when someone needs a 5 page business site. When I need to have a blog I use WP. I have a few themes that I even like, default behavior and all.

SEO is hard enough with out restrictions, WP sometimes inflicts insurmountable barriers to SEO. It does not allow for creativity, unless you are halfway to becoming a developer.

This statement that I do not know what I am talking about because there are many high rated BLOGS simply proves my point. WP is a blogging platform. How many highly successful business sites or e-commerce sites do you see built in WP? How many times do you visit a blog and buy a product there?

I can add a trailer to a VW, and call it a log hauler, but it is not designed to haul logs, and no matter what I add to it, it never will be.

Wordpress is for blogging, not general websites nor e-commerce. It is designed from the ground up to offer minimum functionality in exchange for ease of use. It is designed to present the written word in chronological order. No matter what you hang on it, aside from a custom theme, it never will be anything else.

Don't have to, HTML/CSS,m Joomla, and Drupal already exist.

If you are happy with fill in the blank SEO solutions, fine. Generally though, SEO is more than title, desc, and h1 tags. Since youare blogging, I suppose the plugin is good enough.

Really? That makes sense to you? For SEO?

Can't you do that with a HTML/CSS template, or is that somehow different in your mind to using a theme?

They aren't simple

You never noticed some of this before? Good for you, just keep filling in the blanks. I try to customize my sites to satisfy my needs or what my customer needs.

I actually don't have time to write a full post -- but just stick to whatever you prefer I guess. Perhaps you don't have the skill set to make a simple change in your styles.css to modify the font-size for H1 tags to whatever you want. Most of the problems you described have simple 1 second solutions that are worth the time investment due to the ease of use offered by the CMS as a whole.

In case you didn't know, BRAND NAMES are the richest in the world -- NOT keywords so yes, having the H1 tag as your BRAND NAME helps with brand exposure; it helps Google recognize you as a brand and not just a spam EMD website which they have already punished with previous updates. Where have you been for the Panda, Penguin and the EMD updates?

In regards to your statement about me being a "fill in the blank" kind of guy -- yes I am, for my buffer sites I am a "fill in the blank" kind of guy... but my money sites all use custom themes with custom coded functions that differentiate it from any other WordPress site out there. In either case, I'm not here to argue with someone who can take the time to smash the integrity of a CMS while still using it especially when they don't possess anywhere near the skill set required to create something of the sort; which by the way is offered absolutely free of charge.

You have your beliefs and I have mine -- but a CMS used by over 60 million people and one of the largest used platforms in the world; and according to you its garbage, bravo. (http://www.forbes.com/sites/jjcolao/2012/09/05/the-internets-mother-tongue/)

Wordpress are not for noobs. Let's just say, Wordpress are for non-programmers who would like to create a website of their own without the help of a web developer. Web developers also use Wordpress if their clients require a website with CMS so they can update the website on their own.

Congratulations for digging up a 3 year old thread buried in the graveyard.

Wordpress is Great for beginners and i also like blogspot .

Frankly speaking, it is.
WP is designed to fail when you have great number of users and posts. Due to it's functional structure, almost everything gets loaded whenever you visit a page - in one word, waste of server resource. People love WP mainly because it's very easily customizable, but why? coz you don't need much knowledge on MVC, Oops or wotevr. So it's for the n00bies only :P

More experienced developers go for Joomla, Drupal, Magento, Yii, CakePHP and others, coz they know wot they are doing lol..

I don't know... I guess only a noob would not know hot to edit the H1 style via css.

Wordpress, Is it really for nubs? I have playing around on the Internet for years. Self studied HTML back in 96'. And created my first website to sell coffee beans online. I studied and wanted to rank number 1 for the keyword coffee and did on Alta vista. Then came along Yahoo and then Google. Also ranked 1. Later sometime when Wordpress came about I started to study Wordpress SEO and also ranked. Anyways, the other day I was speaking with a web developer, not web master, and he stated "Wordpress is only for noobs". WOW!!! I was stunned, speechless, I did not know what to say, but at least I am ranking. I am still stunned, and if anyone feels that Wordpress is for noobs, let me know.

Those who don't know Coding , WordPress is the best solution for them to develop site without Coding Knowledge .

No wordpress is the best overall cms (ecommerce, blog, magazines, anything). You can even edit all the files to make it really your own CMS, just wordpress based.

Let that someone opine whatever his butt feels the needs to, why lose your patience over it? :) When an elephant takes a walk in the streets, a street dog will begin barking at it, may be bacause it feels that his "rule" over the street is being endangered. So let it (bark and try to put a sign and stamp over his opinion), because it doesn't make an elephant feel lowly about itself, or turns it into a cat because a dog barks at it. lol

Did you read the complete sentence? I don't need your certificate anyway, but if you just hate joomla because you don't have the documentation to customize it, then you are a noob my dear friend. Instead of making fun of others, go and learn ( and learn to read).
