Hello All,
I've got a site that's fully constructed with custom CSS using Heroku.
We don't want to utilize more Developer time building a blog from scratch for the heroku site that fits with the page infrastructure.
Instead, I had the balderdash idea of creating an independent wordpress blog.

so can we build a wordpress site on a different domain & different server, just like hostgator or something.

and then when you go to theMainDomain com/blog redirect to theSecondDomain com/blog & mask as theMainDomain com/blog

Visit theMainDomain
Click: blog on topnav
Redirect to: theSecondDomain/blog [masked as theMainDomain/blog]
Click: home on topnav
Redirect to: theFirstDomain/blog

Do we then build SEO on themaindomain com/blog?

What would a better alternative be?

I don't understand "We don't want to utilize more Developer time building a blog from scratch for the heroku site"? Would you not be spending developer time to build your WordPress blog? Why not deploy Ghost on heroku or even something like Hugo or Jekyll?

I'll be taking control once we've got the wordpress install.

Taking a look at ghost though, this seems like the solution we needed.
Unfortunate that it's paid, but since we were looking at paying for hosting on the wordpress site anyway, seems like a safe solution.

Is hugu as SEO & user friendly as Ghost? I wasn't able to find good content about it.
