Lately wordpress have been giving me some trouble. I run 2 directory websites which I am constantly adding new content to each day, getting clients and ect. Both websites I started January 2013. The theme I am running is WP Local places which in my opinion is not very good. I want to change my site to Vantage theme: better support, looks more professional and easier to manage.

Now my problem: Say I have a business listing and a.t.m the permalink looks like this: websitename.domain/place/business-name-area.
With Vantage theme each listing page has this type of permalink structure: websitename.domain/listing/business-name-area.

Besides having over 300 listings for each website I am really scared to change permalinks because all my website pages are already indexed and posted to all my social accounts (I use next scripts social poster). I also don't want to spend days updating everything as I need to focus on getting clients.

What is my best option in terms of SEO, getting my pages indexed quickly, and simply not leaving my site in a state of chaos?

Any help would be hugely appreciated!!!

I think you can contact the support of vantage theme to replace your /listing/ and change it to /place/

Hello saber210 - haha that's probably the most simplest solution ever! I don't know why I didn't think of that before.

    Thank you!

If you are buying the theme then support should be able to sort it out for you. You dont pay for a theme you pay for the support

Doesnt sound like a hard issue to sort. but you are right in your caution, do not change your permalinks. If it all came down to it and I had to do it manually then I would put on the coffee.

Can you let me know if the Vantage theme is good when you start using it. I set up a site with that wp local places theme as well and gave up on it after 2 weeks....a complete ball of shit that was grafted from some five year framework.

Download your theme -> save the files in a folder -> open Dreamweaver -> search for these strings : "register_post_type" and "register_taxonomy". You'll see an array having an index named "slug" (it may be in the register_post_type or register_taxonomy, depending on the structure of the posts). just change the value in slug and your url will be changed automatically. No need to contact anyone for that ..

GogOl Thank you for the technical know-how I posted a query about this in the appthemes forum a few moments ago, they will probably give me the same answer.

Duffers5000: When it comes to building a real business I usually buy themes in stead of just getting them somewhere on the internet for free. What I actually did was play around in the vantage theme demo dashboard which looked a bit better than WP local places and for me a lot less confusing.

WP local places I've been using for a while but what sucks about it is: It's not responsive, it's slow, to me it looks shit and too busy. And if you email the WP Local places owner for support be ready to wait around 2 weeks for a reply...

I asked the forum admin a few good questions regarding the theme to which they did respond. If you want I can pm you the link.

Hehe you can trust me on this, coz i myself is a mod @ elegant themes support :D ;-)

If you need responsive themes with great support, i recommend you using elegant themes. they have 80 great themes which they are providing for $35 only . That's damn cheap man..

Theres a simple permalink redirect plugin I used to use, I forget what it's called. You put your old permalink structure in and it redirects all posts to the new structure. Hope this helps in some way :)
