hello, i installed wordpress blog on my of my website two week ago and posted somes articles on it
and today i just figured out that google indexed many duplicates content from my blog like blog archives and category, can this harm my website ranking? how can i deindex them?

Duplicate content certainly have a negative effect on Google, if you use wordpress then it's easy to prevent and block accessing to duplicate content on your website such as archives and cats, just install "yoast seo plugin" it's free and then from the plugin settings you can disable, block, by selecting no index, no follow options by doing it Google spiders will no longer index such duplicate content and eventually it'll fix the duplicate content issue on your site.
 
The duplicate content is obviously bad for google and you affect, I recommend using seo-Yoast is a wordpress plugins free. to help you avoid those things.
 
Every time I come to the forum I learn something new. I have so much catching up to do, I should have been doing this stuff years ago. Thank you to those with the knowledge to share to help.
 
Thanks guy, just installed noindex plugin and added the noindex meta to all duplicates pages :) should i also disavow them from robots file?
 
Yes, Duplicate content affects your site.
 
Of course, you can expect penalty too. Just remove the duplicate contents by noindex-ing with meta robots or through removal via Webmaster Tool.

Just wanted to give a +1 to this solution. Yoast is a great plugin and will stop Google indexing those pesky category and tag pages.

Another solution is to add this to your robots.txt

User-agent: *
Disallow: /category/
Disallow: / tags/

Of course you won't get the other cool things Yoast comes with this way but it does keep your plugins section cleaner. (If you're into that)
