WooCommerce SEO/UE Optimisation

Hello,

Not quite sure how to go about it so I have to ask:

Would it hurt conversations if you set up the main category to show only subcategories so that you have better SEO instead of showing both subcategories and products making it have the same product in more than 1 category (duplication) and more difficult to rank?

Would customers turn away from a category that only shows subcategories or it's actually a good idea to go that way?

depends where u r showing them

i have worked with woocommerce and i usually show the child categories in sidebar....works good for me

1. you should have a sidebar on category pages atleast.
2. For menu you might need to use IF plugin, as i dont think woocommerce "show only child categories" functionality works in menu

to sum up, what you are trying to achieve is also known as SILO structure and it has good SEO benefits. Not sure about the customers though

@seoz87 Yes, I'm confident it will have SEO advantage but will the user like to see subcategories when they might expect products?

oh..let me be clear about it...you are saying when user click a CATEGORY and go to Category Page > you will show sub categories on that page?

If yes then there is a good chance that you are disturbing user experience. A user will need an extra click to see products...increasing chances of exit


There is an option in woocommerce that let you show both the subcategories and products on the main category page...use that perhaps
