I have always read that GoDaddy hosting sucks but I never really bothered to change my hosting plans as the traffic was too little to even bother. But, one site is beginning to get a steady stream of traffic and I started looking at site load speeds in Google analytics.

Some wordpress pages were taking 20 seconds to load. I contacted GoDaddy and they told me to install some cache plugins to improve speed. I did that and didn't see any improvement. So, I started to see if GoDaddy was really sh*t like everyone says it is.

I did a reverse lookup on my website's IP address by using this tool.

You can find out your website's IP by using this tool.
Code:
http://www.selfseo.com/find_ip_address_of_a_website.php
Result - My website's IP address is also host to 7,600 other websites. 7,600 websites. I am not joking. If you have GoDaddy shared hosting, check out your stats. I am sure they will be equally bad.

I also checked a few sites that were hosted on Hostgator and there were only about 100-200 sites on Hostgator shared hosting accounts.

Since it seems that site load speeds can affect SERP rankings, do take a closer look at your hosting to see if you are getting a bad deal from them.

I checked my stats and there are 290 domains hosted on my HostGator ip.

290 is much better than the 7.6k sites that I am sharing hosting with..Can't wait to move away from NoDaddy

I changed over 2 years ago for the same reason. Godaddy is the worst host. They want to take as much money from you as possible by adding services that other hosting providers give you for free, plus as you discovered - you share the bandwidth with over 7000 other users.

I also heard that they confiscated money from users without their permission.
After I read these stories 2 years ago I closed down all accounts with them and moved to 1 and 1 hosting (also mediocre - as they don't have even the Cpanel) and then to hostgator. I am really happy with hostgator as they have good 24/7 support and good hosting features.

yep Godaddy has always done that. Thats how they get away with cheap hosting as they max the servers to the max of what they can handle.

Most of the people that host on godaddy are start up sites so they have no clue. all they know is they have a site and the hosting is cheap.

Wow that's interesting I also have 7.5K but Fatcow hosted...

Hostgator is the best for me .. :) GoDaddy sxck.. :P

Sure it may be 1 IP, but that IP may be shared across multiple servers as well, this is common when they have a cluster setup.. or maybe they just really, really oversell?

I have used their dedicated server service for 8 years in the adult area, anytime there was an issue I just call a number for dedicated servers 24/7 and the issue gets fixed usually while on the phone with them. My longest wait for a live person was about 5min.

I like em ;) Just my 2 cents on GoDaddy...

Cheers!

I belonged to that category when I bought everything from them..I had no clue what I was doing then and thought that everything needs to be bought from GoDaddy.

Their up-selling is so aggressive. The checkout screen looks like a war zone on GoDaddy!

What do you get for speed? I think 1kb in .01 seconds is good. Godaddy gives me 1kb in .1 seconds. Big difference....

I had an account with them, but after I kept getting phone calls from my clients about their sites being down, I switch. I am now with HostGator and I have not had any new problems.

Some of my friends faced problem with GoDaddy Hosting that their sites goes down most of the time. They switched to HostGator and bluehost.

Same here, only 180 websites on my HostGator server. But lets also consider the fact that HostGator might be using cheaper/slower servers and a slower internet connection for each server than GoDaddy does.

But slow website speed is not tolerable. Have you asked them to shift your website to better server?

Their up-selling is a mess. Me and my friends to whom I used to recommend GoDaddy have had the worst experiences when buying anything from them. They will try to up-sell all kind of shit aggressively even when you buy a simple domain name from them!

7600 sites on a IP.... WTH :O Go daddy Go

I mentioned how slow this was in the free Godaddy hosting thread. My site is so slow. But right nwo it's ranking #4 for a huge keyword I don't want to switch :(

That's pretty poor. I am sure dreamhost is just as bad. I have found using cloudflare (Free) speeds things up considerably though, so if you have a heap of sites stuck on crappy shared hosting like any of the above mentioned companies, give cloudflare a go.
