My seo effort work well with another niche but not with hotel related keywords even with a longtail keyword ( a 5-word hotel name). When I checked the search results, I found that mostly they are subpages from those authority sites. I rarely found any small sites or affiliate sites. So, I start to suspect that is there anything special with this niche. Should I change to other niche?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Yes. Booking, Tripadvisor, and wikipedia are taking up all the top spots, especially the first 2. All the major keywords are experiencing the same. Normal blogs and websites have no chance against these bullies. I don't think normal surfers are also too happy about it. Change your niche instead of fighting them for the spots. Or find some other top keywords not touched by them (I doubt myself on this though:))

P.S.:
Don't disclose this to anyone!!!:D
Target Bing visitors. Bing is still a virgin in this matter! i.e., the top 2 'repists' mentioned above are still not aware of Bing's beauty!

Google is favouring sites like booking.com and tripadvisor and heavy spenders on adwords for niche targeted resorts even to the point of domain crowding (several tripadvisor pages on one SERP for example).

They are really letting their users down in this area, as these huge sites can act as search directories in their own right. Peeps go to google because they want something bespoke or unique.

Top tip for today...If you own/manage a bricks and mortar look to work on the local listings. There is plenty of assistance available on this board which will point u in the right direction.
