Hostgator is the best, just test your site locally and you will know what script takes the most cpu time.
With just 50 concurrent users, you should not be facing any issues with Hostgator. I have a wordpress site on their $8 a month shared hosting plan and my site has 200+ concurrent users during peak time. I've never faced any issues so far. My guess is one of the plugins you are using has a bug or security issue.

Why you just don't test it as I told you ? you would find a problem right away.
I would if it was a dedicated or vps. How am i supposed to stop/start apache on shared hosting? Didnt think that kind of control was possible. The only analytics i will be able to install would just be web based crap.
I figure at minimum i would at least need to migrate to a vps to be able to do this level of troubleshooting.
