Where to go from Hostgator

I decided to move over to a vps today.. got one at digitalocean and migrated to it.

Now i am diving into the issue a bit more. On another note... now that i am here the cpu is staying nice and low and its screamin fast.

I updated my 3 day old unanswered hostgator ticket and told them to go screw themselves.

I so feel your pain, i had the exact same shit happening with Hostgator, i paid $50- a month (resale package) for 10 websites that didn't even got 2000 visitors per month combined, i would be put offline like 3/4 times a month with this bullshit, when i asked them what the fuck was going on they tolled me i used more then 25% of their resources, now until this day i have no clue of what these resources are, in RAM and CPU, they refuse to tell you.

Finally i just had enough of their bullshit and bought a VPS at asmallorange.com for $30- (36 including tax) never had a problem again, should have done this months earlier instead having hostgator giving it me in the ass.

If you're still in doubt GET AWAY FROM HOSTGATOR, THE ARE SHIT AND THEY KNOW THE ARE, they don't give a crap, they will try to have you stay (at least that is what they did to me) don't fall for it, they will never improve anything.

Can somebody please recommend some good hosting for wordpress that can host a site that gets decent traffic (always 50+ people on the site at any given time) AND will actually help me figure out wtf is going on if i have cpu issues with them?

Don't be fooled, Hostgator is the biggest and most reliable hosting company on the net.
If someone is telling you otherwise, he is probably too lame to create a website in the first place or is advertising another company (watch post above).

Lol, but I'm being serious. HostGator is never recommended except by affiliates trying to cash in on their big payouts and hasn't been considered good for many years. IIRC there was a buyout or something along those lines and that's when they went downhill. I think you just got conned by an affiliate or alternatively read a very outdated e-book for beginners.

This is a really poor and immature attitude. HostGator built their reputation before the buyout and the new owners are leeching off of the name. If it's all about how well known a brand is maybe we should do all of our business with GoDaddy?

From what I've seen rude and aggressive posters don't get on at this forum. You're not on the Misc now.

My experience with HG is that the backend is slow and the hosting is rudimentary. If you work for them maybe you should consider improving the service instead of getting mad at ex-customers who found the service below expectations.

You're a fucking idiot, i have no stake in OP buying hosting at smallorange, i am financially in the position that don't need a view dime's in affiliate revenue, those days are long long looooonnngg gone asshole.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've been with HG for the past 3 years and have never faced any issue with them. Of course, there was a 12 hour+ downtime when they moved to the new DC after the takeover, but apart from that one instance, there's not been any downtime or other service related issues. IMO, HG is definitely value for money.

Are you on shared? How big is your site? For me HostGator's performance was on the slow side, especially their cPanel backend (probably because they insisted on loading a meaningless giant animated gator every time you access the page). Some buttons didn't work from Firefox on the backend either IIRC but I switched from them a while back so it's hazy to me.
 
i have same problem with HG, their support like hell, 4 days long to get 1 reply and weeks to solve problem, i have adult sites to, but now im using Namecheap BF $1 hosting and it works fine.
 
EXACT same problem is happening with me for last few days. But in my case they have told which website is causing the problem.

I have deleted the site from hosting, but still same issues. And now their support isn't responding.

Trying HostNine from today. I gave up with HG today, finding a long term solution now.

I'm on shared baby gator plan which costs $8 a month. I had about a dozen small sites and 1 large wordpress site with around 900 posts. It gets 15k uniques per day on an average. There were a couple of days when one of my posts went viral on Facebook and Google Analytics showed 300+ concurrent users during peak time. I was afraid my account would be suspended, but hostgator did NOT suspend my site. Instead, they enabled server side caching and informed me about the same through email. I've since moved this site to a VPS on wired tree. What's strange is on wiredtree's $49 per month VPS plan, I initially kept getting frequent OOM errors on the VPS which resulted in mysql getting killed. I had to buy more RAM to prevent this from happening but I had no problems whatsoever while I was on the $8 per month baby gator plan.
 
Geeze why didnt i go to a vps sooner. This is soooo much better. Amazing how much more control i have over stuff : ) Took me some time to figure the permissions out after importing the site, but all is well.

I installed the newrelic agent and its nice being able to monitor server performance from my phone.

Gator guy updated my ticket after i told them to go fuck themselves..... Asked if i still needed help lol

3 days unanswered and then updated 20 minutes after i left my comment. Kinda funny.

I am not promoting digitalocean, but holy hell i love them now. Got the vps set up in like 30 seconds. Screwed some stuff up so i deleted it and got a new one within a few minutes.
 
Its like coming from a rusty bike and getting into a ferrari :)
 
Currently, I'm using "SEO Hosting".
Hostgator really worst support & daily server bugs as well. So, I just hate that.
