After working on around 20 new sites on new domains and fixing some old sites, here is my experience about what is ranking on Google these days after March, May and June 2024 updates.
First thing i noticed that Google determines the category/niche of website and will give rankings to new domains accordingly.
For example in certain niches like:
Entertainment/Celebrities, you can rank on top spots on low competition keywords.
For other niches like health, travel, you cannot rank on top spots with new domain even if you work on very low competition keywords where very less content is available online, for example, health facilities in some very low population city, or travelling in relatively unknown city.
Having said that here what is ranking the best in June 2024 for us, cannot say for future because things change way too quickly.
1: Entertainment/celebrities is the easiest and a niche that provides you quickest results on a new domain.
2: Local categories whether it be health facilities, fitness centers, wedding venues are the next easy category that is ranking, but best results are in Non-English and local TLD's like .de for Germany and .fr for France etc are giving excellent results.
3: Similarly if you want to work in English better go with local TLD like .com.au for Australia, .co.uk for UK and similarly .us for United States.
Combine your niche with some local region for better results, for example Weight loss clinics in some city
4: Structure of site specially permalinks and breadcrumbs have become more important than ever. i have seen our sites and competitor sites are ranking better with permalink structure (domain.com/category/post-name) and with proper links and structure of categories and tags.
5: With proper internal linking to tags and category pages we are getting around 30% traffic on tag pages, this happened after March 2024 updates.
6: Don't hesitate to external link authority site in your niche, that is great way to tell Google your niche.
7: First 10 posts or content pages are extremely important, pay extreme attention to these pages, our technique is to post 10 pages with extremely low competition keywords. If they get indexed then post more content. using this technique we were able to index within 48 hours of starting a new site on new domain and around 80% indexing within 7 days.
8: If your first 10 pages get stuck and don't get indexed then forget it, it will take weeks and weeks for getting new pages indexed with decent rankings.
9: Chatgpt content ranks for English and Non-English but make sure to remove unnecessary or excessive content. We usually use 60 to 70% of content and remove rest.
10: Our best performing content pages have content around 400 to 500 words, 1 image + table with facts and figures.
11: If your content starts ranking on top 3 positions then make sure to give backlinks, this is only way to make sure your pages remain at top spots, don't saturate your site with a lot of content, go slow, after every 5 to 10 pages, build backlinks, but only to those pages that get indexed.
