Whats going on? Google started giving me traffic

I gave up on Google a few weeks ago, but today I randomly decided to check out my Search Console and I noticed that Google indexed thousands of my pages and give me thousands of impressions.

This seems to have started on 14. August.

Is this just a random google quirk or did google change something?

Most likely it’s just Google catching up—sometimes indexing spikes suddenly after updates or when old pages finally get crawled. Unless you see a huge pattern change, it’s not necessarily a new Google change.

You won the algorithm lottery. Enjoy while it lasts.
 
Sounds like Google just did a fresh crawl or update and picked up your pages. It happens in waves, sometimes nothing for weeks, then suddenly thousands get indexed. Just watch if the traffic holds over the next few weeks.
 
It seems that your webpage has been requested. You can think of it this way: everyone else was waiting in line, including you, and now it is your turn. This is a lucky thing.
 
That’s actually pretty common with Google, they sometimes “batch” index content or roll out small adjustments that cause sudden spikes. It doesn’t necessarily mean you did something wrong or right at that exact moment.

A few things you might want to check:
  • Look at your Search Console coverage reports to see if new pages recently got crawled/indexed.
  • Check if there were any Google updates around Aug 14th (they don’t always announce them, but fluctuations often line up with core updates or testing).
  • Sometimes Google “tests” content by giving it impressions/traffic and then adjusts depending on engagement (CTR, dwell time, etc.).
If I were you, I’d keep an eye on it for the next week or two. If traffic keeps coming, double down on those pages with a bit of on-page improvement or fresh internal links to make the most of it.

Congrats though, thousands of impressions is a nice surprise when you’ve already given up on the project ;)
