Okay so here's the deal, I'm a recording artist and years agoin 2016 I made a in the Entertainment (rap) niche channel. I totally abandoned going to the channel because I started to make music so I created a new channel. Fast forward to 2021....

The channel currently has 20.4k in watch time & 690 subscribers but I'm not eligible to monetize :(

What do I need to do to be at the threshold so that I can monetize? Should I just buy 1000 subscribers or does it have to be done organic?

I'm deleting the content and making the page my official artist page since it done so well. (I produce and write my own music and I should be able to get royalties from YouTube but I need the channel eligible for monetization.)

Would be glad if anyone can help me because I'm pulling my hair out.

Actually I found my answer now. Because I own the copyright to my song my distributor actually has content id so I don't need 4000 watch hours and 1000 subs. Youtube send my check straight to my distributor

I wouldn't recommending buying subs on a channel that you want to grow seriously, but I'm glad you found the solution to monetize.

Four rules to making money on YouTube ,
You need to have 1,000 subscribers on your YouTube channel.
Your videos have generated 4,000 Watch Time hours over the last 12 months.
You comply with all of YouTube's policies and guidelines.
You have an AdSense account set up.

It's better to grow organically. You never know what gets you into trouble. Most people who buy initial subs use them for churn & burn projects. As you have quality content, it's better to stick to the rules.

so I guess buying views is out of the question also
Most of the time yes, especially for serious projects. It does depend on the type of views you buy and how much, but if you grow it organically you'll earn more in the long term for your project.
