Hi every body, hope you all are having good time

I am new to seo though i am familiar with some basic aspects of seo, I have been planning to do on page changes for a site and while doing that i came up with debate on meta character limitation.

I know the Google meta character rules like

Title is set to 69 Characters
Description is set to 200 Characters
and Keywords is set to max 20 words

my argue is with description only, is it really necessary to keep description to 200 char, as now in off page we also go for social media and bookmarking where it will collect meta description from site, wouldn't it be nice to increase the character from 200 to max 300 so that it provide more clear info about the link to web user and helps in increasing clicks on link.

what I want to know that what will be the impact on seo strategy or keyword optimization if i exceed character limit in description only?

I Have attached 2 images in reference of my question.

    Regards

a little bit of this, a little bit of that
You can have a 300 characters meta description. The phrase users will see in search results may be depending on the keyword.
The meta keyword doesn't matter much now.
For ranking, I don't think the meta description is as important as it was, Google now focuses on your content more than your metas

As eterxx mentioned, Description Metadatas are more or less a relic from a previous time in SEO. Google usually now takes the first relevant text as a description for your website. Focus on quality content, and remember to mention your keywords a few extra times in the beginning of your content and you'll be all set.

Meta description is most often the snippet that will appear under your serps result for non-longtail searches. It is important because an attractive snippet can do wonders for your clickthrough. Combine good clickthrough with a low bounce rate and Panda thinks your site is a winner.

I shared a method a while back that can help increase your clickthrough using meta description:

    Good luck.

Make sure to put all your keywords in your meta tags, so I can scrape them easier.

    Thanks again!

    Hi

I would like to give you a tip here that i use, make your important keyword within 200 charc. Many people said that google does not give the value to meta description, use the trick i mentioned and see the results.

Make sure one thing google give the value each and every thing whether it is meta description, title, content or links. But the thing is that, they must be good and valualbe to the users.

    Tks

every page needs a unique meta description tag, otherwise in google webmaster tools you will see an error (i cant remember the exact text but it's something that basically meant) "duplicate meta description tags detected on multiple pages, if it's not important enough to you to get it's own meta description tag, it's not important enough to us to index it"
also, make sure your meta description is formatted to entice human readers to visit your site, but also includes your keywords, the human part should be somewhere along the lines of the first 200 chars and the rest needs to be within the 300 mark. you can have a longer one than 300 for the purpose of making it unique (ie. my technique to generate unique meta descript tags for wordpress and joomla by injecting the title tag into the end of the meta description) but don't expect characters past 300 to count for optimization
