I found this out the hard way when, while messing with a plugin's code, I accidentally set all of my title tags to the same title. Luckily, I was able to catch it before google re-cached many of my posts and pages. I actually did this on two sites that were on the first page before at the same time.

They both had drops in google by over a page and my sales off them have plummeted.

Just a reminder to make all of your page's titles unique!

That's definitely White Hat 101. Title tags and meta descriptions should be unique for every page (and have the same keywords that are targeted in the body content).

Yeah I was aware of that, but what I didn't know is how much of an affect they can have on your rank. I was just sharing my experience with the impact having unique titles has on your rankings.

Also, many wordpress themes and seo plugins automatically adds your blog name to the title tag. Could having the same phrase at the beginning of each title tag have a negative affect?

    Something to think about...

It may be white hat seo 101, but I am on my way to check a few sites. I am thinking that is what I did - used my main keyword phrase on each page. That would explain the drop my one site had. :(

if you are using all in one seo, make sure your wordpress theme does not generate title tags automatically.

You should always check the page source and use the find command to search for the word "title" and make sure you don't have the same title tag twice.
