This is a very case by case basis. Without really having a look at your site metrics, content, UI/UX, speed, backlink profile, competitor and niche, it is quite hard to give an exact advice on how you can recover or why you were hit. Because sometimes, a ranking drop is niche-wide. Did your competitors also lose rankings? What kind of sites were the winners in this algo update? Analyzing this could give you clues.
Anyways, one important thing that I could advice you is to not touch your site right away. Let it sit for a few weeks before you start changing things. In the meantime, just continue posting new articles as if nothing happened. I know losing traffic is stressful but you have to be patient.
