You want to track the email opens or the link clicks?
If link click then any refresh tracker will work. For email opens, what typically gets added is a pixel (an empty image) to the end of the email that makes a request to your server.
When the image is loaded, the event fires.
For SMS tracking, you can't track text opens, but you can do it via the link method above.

It is, however, better to setup multi-attribution tracking, but the process of setting that up varies based on business and your marketing funnels. (this tracks the user across ads/websites/devices, etc)
I don't do SMS. Only one I know of is Twilio, but they don't fit the "cheap" requirement you're asking for.

Start with Google analytics for a multi-channel funnel tracking. The setup is kinda complicated for a nondeveloper:

However, the one thing wrong with GA is that they cannot self optimize. In order to do this, you'll need to use multiple services. I'm sure that you can still see good results from using a basic Google analytic setup though.
