Etsy is a platform that prioritizes handmade and custom products. Unlike eBay or Amazon, setting up a shop on Etsy requires more detailed information and steps. That’s where many sellers run into problems.

Many Hidemyacc users selling on Etsy and one common challenge they face is getting their very first product listing suspended. So today, I’d like to share some tips on how to safely list your first product and avoid getting flagged. I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences too.

✅ 1. Why do your Etsy accounts get suspended after the first listing?

It’s pretty common for sellers to get suspended right after uploading their first product. Here are some of the top reasons why this happens:
  • Listing policy-violating items: Every platform has its own strict product guidelines. Make sure the item you’re listing, as well as your title and keywords, don’t violate Etsy’s policies.
  • Incomplete shop setup: Etsy expects a fully completed store setup. That means filling in your shop policies, payment methods, shipping info, etc.
  • Non-compliant images or descriptions: Avoid using images with logos, watermarks, or content copied from other sellers. Even if it’s a great product, using trademarked images or duplicate descriptions can trigger a suspension.
  • Suspicious activity: Things like frequently changing your IP address, using an IP from a different region than where the account was registered, or inconsistent logins can all raise red flags.

✅ 2. How to list your first product on Etsy without getting suspended?

Here are a few practical tips to help you get started the right way:
  • Warm up your account: Before you switch from buyer to seller, “farm” the account a bit. Make some purchases, interact with the platform, and build a trustworthy history. This helps build Etsy’s trust in your account before you list anything.
  • Make sure your personal info matches: Your ID, bank card, and registration details should all be consistent. Mismatched info is a big reason for instant suspensions
  • Start with a handmade product: Since Etsy favors handmade items, your first listing should align with what the platform expects. It builds more credibility.
  • Use original images and descriptions: Take your own product photos, don’t use images from Google or other sellers. Avoid anything with logos or watermarks. Also, write your own unique description and avoid copying from others.
  • Use accurate and relevant keywords: Do some basic keyword research and choose tags that match what buyers are searching for. Fill in all required fields when listing your product to make your shop look complete and professional.
