I don't want to sound flippant about it, but what worked for me was - I just stopped.
Every time I wanted to have a smoke I said to myself "stop it."

What also helped with not killing anyone from the cravings was whenever I felt tense
I would squeeze my thumb and index finger together forcefully until the urge went away.

I know it sounds dumb but that's what worked for me
(I have been off my 1 1/2 packs a day for over a yr and a half now - and
(WARNING) today I felt like smoking again so WARNING you will ALWAYS feel like smoking
so get a grip of yourself and stop if you want to). ;)
    YOU CAN DO IT!! LOL

Cheers and I hope this helps anyone who needs it. =)

Recently quit nicotine as well. Remove yourself from your environment briefly (The 1-5 day mark is always the hardest).

After that what helped me was associating the nic with how it made me felt when I was all geeked up on it and the withdrawal afterwards. After saying no a couple times it was a lot easier.

85% is just discipline so decide today that you are done and follow your word.

Some people have different genes that might make addiction more potent than normal. Some people can't quit. Stop trying.
P.S. If you really want to quit you have to gradually train your willpower every day with little things. You can't quit like normal people because your brain is wired differently. Your willpower is low. Instead of trying to quit something try getting first the commitment to do something good for yourself. Go to Church or your religion's worship place. People underestimate what can a bit of heavenly induced humbleness do to their lives. But like I said you have to commit to something first that is really serious, something that will make you feel really ashamed if you skip. Social commitments to girlfriends or loved ones might work as well. If they also smoke then forget about it. You need someone to shame you IRL in the most extreme case. Just choose someone who is really close to you and tell them to make fun of you and your IM dreams because you can't quit a habit that depends 100% on you. Hope you make it out. Best of luck!

I smoked for awhile. A family member introduced me to vaping and the Juul. I was skeptical but that thing works. Haven't smoked since I started using it. I agree with others about considering the implications smoking has on your body as well.

Also, in the book "Atomic Habits," the author talks about reframing your mindset about smoking. He tells a story of a man offering a cigarette to a couple of men at a bar. Both reject the offer for a cigarette but how they do it greatly affects their mindset about smoking. The first man responds saying, "no thanks, I'm trying to quit."

Meanwhile, the second man responds to the offer by saying, "no thanks, I don't smoke."

The second response is important because it shows the man is not just trying to quit smoking as a habit, because smoking is simply not something he does. It's not part of his identity nor does it fit in with his lifestyle.

Try to think about the long term affects of smoking and take it day by day. The juul really works!

I stopped my 40 a day literally overnight by vaping nearly 6 years ago
I had one cigarette about 2 years ago, because a friend of mine had told he had had one after quitting for 3 years when he was drunk, and that the next day he thought he needed a priest for the last rights as he though he was going to die.
I said he was over exaggerating, but myGOD! he wasn't far wrong, I had to take the morning off work sick because I felt so rough ! And I had been paying BiGtobacco for the privilege of poisoning me ??
I don't care what the long term consequences are of vaping, what I do know is that it 1 trillion times better than smoking.
I make my own juice so I know what goes in it now and for pennies compared to shop sold shite.
Thats my 10 peneth worth on the subject, and good luck mate I really really hope you quite.
