those ex smokers how you quit smoking?

I had smoked 20 years before quit smoking completely 5 year ago. During these twenty years I had tried to give up for about 30 times. Many times I have give up for weeks or months before smoking again. So how the last time I success? This is what I finally understand:
- nicotin is not strong that much. If you are not smoke for about two days and things happen around you are ok then you will not miss cigarret much.
- It will only that strong stress and bad things happen to you that makes you miss the release moment smoke gives you.
- Even the good taste of smoke is an illusion of mind: if you truly concentrate on your tongue to figure out what taste is that then you will recorgnize it 's just bull shit.
So how to quit smoking completely is a game of mind:
- Realize that passing the first two days is not so hard, because just a little motivation already enough. The hard part is to quit forever.
- Realize how much your health could be better if you quit smoking and exactly how you will take advance of it. Like meeting more girls, more time take care of your kids, taking specific sport, etc. If you don't know what to do with more healthy life then you will come back to smoking ... just why not?
- List all situations and reasons that you may give yourself for smoking, prepare things that you will do instead. Don't let your self don't know what to do at those moments.
- This is most important for long term: understand that smoke will not make stress and bad things go away, you just try to avoid them for a moment and that means you are weak. We should be strong enough to face our problems and carry on our responsibilities. Smoking just proven that you are not strong enough, don't know what to do, damage your health and make things worse.

That 's what I do and it 's enough. By give up smoking and drinking I have strong enough to recover from knee injury, become a great salsa dancer and right now meeting a girl about 14year younger than me. And I have more time in the future. Now even just sit and relax is even more worthy than smoke.
Good luck.

well understand it takes a month to sacrifice. So get your crap together and when you feel best with least other things bothering you just lower 1 cig a day and then do not smoke, then days gonna be hard but you gonna live through it.Took years of smoking it takes an effort to quit something you been doing for years in 1 month,I would say its a good deal if you think outside the box. Then willpower and guts.Dont need smokers for that month, friends family whatever, dont buy cigaretes that month, and maybe even go to gym because nobody smokes there.

Man, I have a funny experience. I was a smoker, not addicted type. I smoked just to savour the experience. My smoking was kind of fake but I still kept smoking especially with colleagues. Then a funny thing happened. One day my GF told to swear on her that I would never smoke again. I had no choice. I swore on her. From that da onwards never touched the cancer stick again. Today I don't even have the urge to smoke. My situation was entirely a cultural thing. I don't know about yours.
I have heard similar experiences, for some smoking is a temporary stress killer until the sun comes out.

The only thing left is 'discipline'.... try it, you can stop in no time....

I hope so, I dont have that either, I still smoke....

What worked for me might not work for everyone. Disclaimer. Words that make you feel are ahead.

I had been smoking since the age of 16 until I was 25 I'm 27 now. I easily smoked 1-2 packs a day if not more when I was in the military. Hard times. Anyways...

I had to have a health scare moment for me to quit and never want to smoke or drink again. (I've tried before like everyone else does, trying stupid $30 dollar gum, vaping, cold turkey. etc. Without a reason to quit. You will not quit, trust me.

I was diagnosed with kidney disease a little over a year ago.

The doctor showing me "innumerable amounts of cysts" all over and throughout kidneys and even my liver has some for shits and giggles I guess. I had to SEE my fucked up body with my own eyes to believe it. Eventually, I am going to need to be on dialysis or get a fucking transplant. Smoking would just make that day come much much sooner than I wanted.

If you are stubborn like me, then you have to find a reason to quit, mine was health-related. Are you exhausted all the fuckin time walking up stairs? wheezing? coughing and spitting all the fucking time? Yeah, that's only going to get worse and eventually you'll fucking die a horribly painful death. Want a shorter life? Keep smoking. Want to suffer a major stroke like my uncle and is now paralyzed and has permanent brain damage? Keep smoking. Want to die slowly of lung cancer and suffocate to death as my grandma did right in front of me? Keep on Smokin, I can go on and on with my personal experience with smoking and other stupid shit us humans do try to justify because "life is stressful".

Find your reason to quit smoking. It has to be something that means more to you than cigarettes. And you need to visualize the future damage you're doing to yourself. Because time flies, and before you know it you'll be getting a call from your doctor saying that they found a "dark spot" on your chest x-ray'. Bam cancer, Bam chemo, Bam early grave.

Picture in your mind your loved ones' faces. The people you say you'll do anything for. Imagine them being without you. Or with you in dire health circumstances. For what? Smoking?

Sorry for all the harsh words. But I wish somebody put life into perspective for me when I started smoking. By the way, I feel 1000x better physically, mentally and financially.

If my addictive personality can quit, so can you.

You will die in any way
why you want to quit?

yea always when you find out got some illness than suddenly you will quit , but sometimes also depend individual.
my dad even he is so weak and sick will still wanna smoke before as months , years gone by he don't even touch one cigarettes
since at nursing home you can't smoke but irony eventually he rip last year at hospital , I ask the nurse that is it he suffer in pain or what when his last moment come.
she just told me he just RIP while sleeping. I cannot reach on time to see his last moment. The last moment I see him is before his death previous day . The Doc and Nurse just inform me , be mental prepare within these few days.
So I pay a visit to him, I know myself , this might be the last time i see him alive . You know what? I even regret let my dad
take some puffs while I visit him at nursing home. In fact I kinda hate myself have to send him go there. As I busy with projects
and my mum is too old to help, simply because my dad is so weak till he need assistance to help him bath etc.
IF I financial rich I will get helper for sure. AT least my dad is at home . I even ask the person in charge the nursing home.
so patient send in here , end of the day can go back ? She just straight told me , they just pass their last moment here. which she indrectly
means will not ever go back home again just stay here waiting to RIP.

well my dad case of smoking in fact don't affect me. You can call me weird.
my mum caught me smoking again and she in tears in fact when she came my bedroom discover my cigarette butts.

yes I let down my mum but I got to admit I love my parents a lot , even stay with them , now just left my mum and me.

I never take drugs , never drink , basically I never do any illegal crimes or do bad things go around destroy people etc.

My Only bad habit is smoking. Well I have friends who got family ,also smoke , beside some don't smoke.

Now a days hardly get contract with the rest as everyone busy make money , times indeed is bad to be frank.

I don't say really recession globally , is kinda things getting expensive , everyone seem have to work double hard to pay
off their daily expenses etc for your foods , etc Yes that include cigarettes price increase a lot over the years.

unlike the good old days in the 80s , 90s things seem so great. Unlike now.

Now a days I view life is , do whatever you like or want. You never know the next moment just vanish from this world.

Some successful folks even claim like wise , claim , Treat yourself and think everyday is the Last day for you in this earth.

You will die in any way
why you want to quit?

Well that is true but as smoker honestly even some ex smoker does claim
I have to say they claim is true ,
if you never encounter serious health issue due to smoking when you reach 70s , even 80s.

is really rare which I does witness some elderly like that. Is not they are " God like "
partly because they May be eating healthy all along . Just that Smoking is the bad side

Some folks got cancer , lung cancer, etc is not due to smoking . Is due to other reasons.
Our Air now days , Our daily food , so many process foods, The world has to product as much as possible
and have to in the fast rate to feed the world population.

Especially China and India , they are the two world largest population countries in this world.

In fact at Asia , I read up , in Taiwan there a lot have cancer partly due to the foods they eat

the oil use to fry the foods are very dirty and dark like they never change much . As we know Taiwan
also famous for streets foods beside other Asian countries like Thailand , etc

well I not give excuses etc, Quit smoking is good , give up process foods , take less meat , eat more veggies is another good thing to follow
beside trying to quit smoking.

I have seem some of my friend . never smoke , never drink yet , addicted to high crabs , deep fry foods , and fast foods.
the stomach getting bigger as years gone by and yes one of them happen to mid stroke but under control not say serious.

My summary here is well as Human we cannot be perfect perhaps , bound to have bad habits in some ways or form .

Try to workout maybe it will help
man, whenever I going to workout two thing is a must , black coffee and cigrattees
is kinda make my heart pump warn up so I got that kick to exercise.
now I not say serious on workout as I not getting younger. Just casual workout for few mins doing kettlebell swing.
Is not too weak or what Just that exercise to control my weight , stay average.

I never take drugs, never drink

What are considered drugs? in my opinion, the drugs that cause us most harm are the most widely accepted, aka fast food, smoking, drinking etc.

What you basically are telling me is that you don't want to quit smoking. And you don't care what your family thinks deep down, maybe on the surface just to shoo the annoying family member away. but then you'll just smoke again until it's too late to come back from the damages,

The thing I don't get is peoples justification that I hear a lot is that everything causes cancer...

Yeah okay, maybe you'll develop cancer from inhaling McDonald's every day and drinking extra large diet* dr peppers, or the air we breathe is so toxic anyways blah blah

with that logic in mind, why would you want to make your eventual demise (death) even faster and or worse?

I love feeling the way I do after quitting smoking, Just pointless health issues and bodily pains that are 90% preventable.
(I left 10% for genetics and healthy lifestyle choices)

Honestly, if all else fails. Start smoking weed, the culture alone won't allow you to smoke or drink anymore lol.

Lol @ all these replies. Since when vaping is better than smoking? Same shit, another hand.
Honestly read The Easy Way to Stop Smoking Book by Allen Carr and you're done. It's all in your head.

P.S. I've used to smoke for 8 years or so.

well nope , I just honestly claim is kinda hard for me to quit and yes is all in the mind .
Yes I still remember those days I never smoke , feel the air is different at least

kinda like don't have " a thing to own you "

okay, then I've decided that you don't want to quit and that you're just bored.

Cannabis has come a very long way in the states, the majority of states have some sort of legal cannabis or related product. Even in the bible belt. But that's another topic.

I've stoped smoking cigarettes about 2 months ago and switched to iQos (not burning but heating) and I must say I can't even smell cigs now... It's also smoking but it's more easier to quit this than cigarretes ...
