The Ultimate Guide to SEO Siloing - Dominate Google in 2018

Wow. Great write. up. Now bare with me as it try to break this down.

Questions so my on my Main page I am going to have about 300 words of content
plus
If I display my last 20 laptops, and Each of those articles titles are 5 words long.= for a total of 100.

My main page will have about 400 words of content?

P.S. Sorry Hope you dont mind me asking these very basic questions.

"

Your article titles and snippets from articles don't count towards your word count. That's "dup content", but obviously not bad dup content, since google knows it's a category page.

Your unique content should be at the top of the category page, and is to establish the topic of the page.

Hmm this is interesting, every time I tried silo's I always put article targeting the biggest keyword at the top of the silo. I also never felt that my silo structure lives up to the hype that everyone promises it does. I will test your way. Thank you!

Your homepage should generally contain links to the silos/sub-silos of your site, and this can just be in the form of having a giant silo. Say 500-1000 words of content at the top, with all the latest articles appearing on the page. For an ecommerce site you wouldn't have all the latest products appear here, since that's a bit iffy, but for an informational site you would just have the latest 20 articles appear. What that does is make sure that juice goes from the homepage to new articles.
Hi, @splishsplash
Thanks for sharing this amazing method. I have a question about this method.

Is it okay IF I just show google ALL my article url in the silo/sub silo? Not just the 20 recent articles. Because I want the juice from my home page goes to all my articles not just 20 recent articles.

OOT. For link building procces using this method. What would you recommend, backlink to the home page or backlink to the money article?

Thank you.

Thank you for the amazing SILO explanation! My additional question is this: Where do you put money articles ( example: 10 best gaming laptops on the market.? Lets say this is your main money article in gaming laptop topic and you want to rank it as well as possible).

Do you put it as mysite.com/reviews/, where /reviews is page url and you asign it H1 " 10 best gaming laptops on the market", page title is "top gaming laptops"? And after that make supporting articles for it (5 to 10 for example). Wordpress category for them could be Gaming Laptops.

OR

in mysite.com/reviews/ you put some text about how laptop reviews are useful AND then make the article (wordpress post) with the aforementioned title and H1 tag as a post which gets assigned category Gaming Laptops and is also listed as one of the links on a page mysite.com/reviews/. And then make additional wordpress post articles which only internally link to the money article and parent silo mysite.com/reviews/.

I hope this is clear enough question.

Zatoichi

Great advanced guide splishsplash. I am waiting for this guide from so many months after i read your Amazon articles.
As per your previous threads i have used pages instead of category in my site.
1.What are the disadvantages if we use pages only instead of categories for siloing?
2.How to overcome above disadvantages if already implemented using pages?
3.Whether breadcrumbs are important for siloing?
4.How to implement them in every theme?
Thanks in advance.

this way you giving up the link power and the lower the structure is the less important for google.
i play around with internal linking as well and doubt this is the way to go ... from what i have seen on my pages.

No, don't do that. You're going to dilute it too much. You only want the 20 most recent, because that gives them initial juice. They won't lose their power once they roll off the main silo pages.

Backlinks to the homepage, the silo pages and the inner pages. I use single word lsi's to the homepage/silo pages usually, and longer phrase lsi/long partials to the inner pages. I also create informational non-money support articles that I link to, which in turn link to the money pages.

reviews isn't a silo. What is reviews? That's just a generic term. You could have reviews for anything. You're never going to be an authority in 'reviews'. You need to be an authority in laptops and gaming laptops, not reviews.

You have your money article in laptops/gaming/

What would amazing if someone could make a dummy site so some people(me) can actually see the setup.

I'm going to do another guide with a dummy site showing how this is done.

There are no disadvantages to using pages. You NEED to use pages. It's not possible to do this with just the default category page.

Breadcrumbs are essential, yes. I can't answer how to implement in every theme :) That's like asking how to fix every car in the world, lol.

Nope, this is plain wrong.

I'm ranking #1 for a 12k volume keyword, beating massive authority sites with only 4-5 links to the inner page and it looks like this

foo.com/level1/level2/level3/the-article-title

The reason you're not able to rank your inner pages is you're not structuring your site correctly to pass juice.

99% of sites aren't ranking for many keywords. Flat sites or ones with a structure. I see almost no one who knows how to build sites properly. My site is ranking for 24.5k keywords now. Up 200 from when I created this article. That's a bigger increase in a day than most people have their entire site ranking for.

This works. There is absolutely no doubt. No one I've showed this to has ever seen anything close to this growth.

Thanks, its all clear as day. I have a massive juice from authority site like washingtonpost, mashable, techcruch to my homepage. And i want make the full use of it for SEO. Hope this method works well for me. :)

Hey Mate,

I Have Few Questions About Silo. I Have New Project Ready To Setup I Am Thinking To Build Site In Silo.

My Site Have 4 Main Category

Category 1, Category 2, Category 3, Category 4

And 3 Subcategories In Each Main Category Which Actually A Filter

Category 1 Category 2 Category 3 Category 4
- Subcategory 1.1 - Subcategory 2.1 - Subcategory 3.1 - Post 4.1
- Subcategory 1.2 - Subcategory 2.2 - Subcategory 3.2 - Post 4.2
- Subcategory 1.3 - Subcategory 2.3 - Subcategory 3.3 - Post 4.3
- - Post 1.1 - - Post 2.1 - - Post 3.1

Everything Going Good Till Here

----Confusion Starts Here----

Post 1.1 Related To Each Subcategories (Subcategory 1.1, Subcategory 1.2, Subcategory 1.3) Because Subcategories is Actually Nothing Just A Filter. ( Very Big Ex. E-commerce Site if I Search For I Phone, It Comes Under Following Categories Electronics › Mobiles & Accessories › Smartphones & Basic Mobiles › Smartphones › Apple iPhone. When I Filter By Brand Electronics › Mobiles & Accessories › Smartphones & Basic Mobiles › Smartphones › Apple)

So if I Continue This Than I Have To Put Post 1.1 Into Subcategories.

Site Will Generate 3 Different URL

abc.com/category1/subcategory1.1/post1.1
abc.com/category1/subcategory2.1/post1.1
abc.com/category1/subcategory3.1/post1.1

Confuse A Bit About Silo Lacking Here

This Was One Scenario Have Another Issue After That

Post 1.1 Contain Text Related To Post 2.1 So I Am Thinking To interlink.

But I Think It Will Lack My Silo If Link Post 1.1 To Post 2.1

Overall Now I Totally Confuse How Can Go Ahead

I Am Not Native One So Sorry For My English I Hope It's Understandable.

Thanks!!

What is the website also has desktops and mobile phones? Do we just create yoursite.com/desktops/ and yoursite.com/mobilephones/ silos and the same logic follows? On the homepage we then link to ALL pages (or 20 latest) from yoursite.com/laptops/, ALL pages from yoursite.com/desktops/ and ALL pages from yoursite.com/mobilephones/ ?

As for tree structure at the bottom of the pages, can you please show some real examples? What are they "tree structures" on the website?

For an ecommerce site with a lot of ways to sort, you don't want to create multiple silos for each type. Pick one main physical silo, you can use ajax to sort by type/size/specs etc on the category page.

So we don't create silos for type/size/specs but rather choose one silo (brand as in your example) and type/size/specs would be pages within a silo?

For example,
yoursite.com/laptops/hp/hp-xx-green.html
yoursite.com/laptops/hp/hp-14inch.html
yoursite.com/laptops/hp/hp-xx-i5-16gb.html
yoursite.com/laptops/hp/hp-xx-i5-SSD.html

Did I understand it correctly or not?

you sir are a saint, seo has been... yup just what my user name suggests, looking forward for the dummy site.
