Hi everybody. My name is Dylan and I have just finished high school and turned 18, which means I have about four months of break between now and when I begin university.

I have no job and I don?t particularly want to get one, which means I have a lot of time to do whatever I want over the next few months, and I am going to dedicate these months to self improvement (both physically and financially).

My ultimate goal is to live a healthy flexible lifestyle that allows me to be happy and do whatever I want to.

Over the course of this journal I will break this goal up into smaller goals.

I am going to be working on internet marketing four days per week for approximately 6 hours, and with the rest of my time, I am going to focus on developing a healthy balanced routine, getting fitter and eating healthier, and becoming more hygienic.

I am going to be posting here daily with my progress at the end of each day, and to avoid wasting time and productivity, I will restrict myself to spending only 30 minutes per day reading forums, and 15 minutes per day updating my progress and answering questions in this thread.

I am not ever going to sell anything here so you don?t have to worry about ulterior motives as this thread will serve only to motivate me and ensure that I stay on track, as I really don?t want to get slack and spend my days waking up at 2pm and playing CoD all the time.

With that said, my first goal is too small (to pay my hosting bill with revenue) so I will couple that with my next goal: to pay my iPhone bill ($83 per month). I will need a total of $93 per month to achieve this which works out to be an even $3 per day. This is my first goal. I will count my revenue by the rolling week average.

My goals will become progressively larger as my success grows.

I am intending to start with MFA micro niche websites, and once I reach a significant income I think I?ll explore other methods to ensure I am not vulnerable to having my entire work wiped out.

I currently have one website which isn?t earning any revenue (sporadically gets clicks but not consistent) and I intend to spend tomorrow finding and building good backlinks to it, and I will also write another article for this website to target an additional keyword.

Bookmark this thread because this is going to be one of the big success stories of BHW, and it will show everybody what can truly be achieved and how a life can be changed with determination, persistence, focus, and intellect.

I wish you all the best with this. I'm kind of doing the same at the moment in a sense of I'm trying to improve my life style. You summed me up in the "waking up at 2pm and playing CoD all day" part. This will change though.

The only difference is I have a job, it's only 4 - 5 hours a day Monday to Friday so it isn't too bad plus it gives me money use if I need it.

Again, I wish you all the best.

    Day 1
    November 22,

Today I woke up early and for probably the first time all year I ate breakfast which was a good start to my lifestyle change. I also haven?t consumed any caffeine all day and drank more water than I usually do, so I?m feeling pretty good about that. Nothing major, but it?s a start.

Today I intended to put in around 6 hours of work on my internet marketing projects, but to be honest I probably only did around three hours of solid work. It isn?t that I?m wasting time on facebook or anything I just didn?t work as quickly as I thought I would.

I wrote another two 500 word articles for my current website and uploaded them so I?m now targeting 14 keywords on that website instead of 12, so hopefully that helps. Tomorrow I?m going to set up tracking on my adsense account properly to see which pages are getting the clicks and impressions and which aren?t, just so that I can get a bit more information about what?s actually going on.

I spent the majority of the day looking for .edu and .gov backlinks for my current website but I only found around 5 new ones which was disappointing given the time I put into it. I think I have found a faster way to find new ones though so that should improve soon.

My plan is for this first week I?m intending to spend most of my time finding and building .edu and .gov links to my existing website and by doing so I will create a list of powerful links I can instantly create for my new websites, which I will then use whenever I launch new websites to quickly boost them to the top of the SERPs.

Although today I had mixed results, I am remaining optimistic about the rest of my journey, and am already proud of the initial effort I have put into this goal.

    Cheers - Dylan.

    Good on ya mate.

I used to wake up at 2pm, play WoW all night and was horribly unfit. Now, while I am not filthy rich, and probably work too much, I have a happy and balanced life.

Sometimes you need to just find the drive and the passion!

Don't get disheartened if you don't make it the first time. I tried so many things and failed, or had mediocre results before hitting some workable projects (both related and unrelated to IM)

    I wish you the best.

$100 per month is very very easy, what you might consider is going to fiverr and posting couple of gigs (building backlinks or writing articles) and with only one order daily you'll easily earn $100+ monthly :).

You are on the right track, you remind me of myself when I was 18. You've already learned a very vital life ritual, creating, setting, and achieving goals. The truly successful people actually utilize this throughout their lives. It's how they achieve extremely lofty goals.

I set goals each and every year at the beginning of the year, and then create To Do lists based upon those goals. I achieved all my goals this year (aside from taking a long vacation).

Keep it up! Stay committed, yet flexible and continue with goal setting/achieving.

    Day 2
    November 23,

As I only planned to work on the internet side of my lifestyle goals four days per week, I decided I'd take today off in that aspect, and work hard on it tomorrow. I still did some tinkering about and checked my rankings with Rank Tracker from SEO Powersuite which I got from the members downloads section here and found that not much had really changed... +1 here -1 there etc.

I found that my two articles from yesterday still aren't indexed or ranking for their keywords yet but that doesn't worry me because it will happen eventually and I'm in no rush.

Today I went to the beach and worked on my tan with my girlfriend who I hadn't seen for a while so I had a really good day and I'm feeling really positive, and it is making me even more excited to tackle these internet tasks.

Tomorrow I'm going to find .edu and .gov backlinks and will set myself a minimum target in the morning (thinking around 30 new backlinks) and I won't stop searching until I reach that target.

I think that the way I will succeed will definitely be by breaking up things into smaller goals and reaching targets on a short term, medium term, and long term level.

After I reach my backlink target I'm going to do a bit more reading into keyword research and might even read over the XFactor ebook again to brush up on criteria for selecting micro niches, because I think that's the area that I will struggle with most.

Looking forward to updating my progress and sharing my experience with you all!

Thanks for all of the positive comments so far. It's great to see everybody supporting me on this.

    - Dylan.

Thanks for the ideas. I think you are definitely right that $93 per month isn't a very hard goal to achieve which is why I set it first; so I could get a bit of success and confidence to continue with larger goals which will come after that has been achieved.

I may look into doing fiverr gigs but what I am really looking for is a stable residual income (aren't we all lol), and hopefully adsense and organic traffic can deliver that to begin with, but after this I will certainly delve into other methods.

Thanks for the support and advice mate - I appreciate it :)

I really do think that the largest contribution to my outcome from this project/journey will be whether or not I am able to effectively set and achieve goals, and I do at the moment feel like I have a pretty clear idea of how to do that so I'm feeling really good in that regard.

I hope we both succeed in achieving our goals and that you finally get that vacation :)

    All the best

    - Dylan.

Forget the .edu and .gov backlinks. You can get a lot just scrapping university students blogs and posting quality posts with backlink each day.

Start building web 2.0 backlinks, thats what google loves.

Yeah I wouldn't get so hung up on finding only .gov and .edu links. There was a post by Matt Cutts on the Google blog a while back where he came out and said that .gov and .edu links are no more powerful than a link from any other extension.

Just focus on finding good links from anywhere. Submit articles, build web 2.0 sites, comment on blogs, build forum profile links, etc.

Keep the links diverse and just keep getting them regardless of the domain extension. You will be spending the same amount of time, but instead of only finding a few gov/edu links, you will get lots more .com/net/org

    Day 3
    November 24,

Today I continued to focus on building links and built a good amount of .gov and .edu backlinks. Although I don't believe Matt Cutts, I am deciding to heed the advice in this thread and widen my scope of backlinks instead of solely focusing on .edu and .gov backlinks; I am going to be building more backlinks tomorrow from a wider variety of sources and see how it effects my SERPs for my existing website.

This will be a short update as there were no major changes other than my continuation of building links.

However, today my website got three clicks in adsense, which netted me $0.63. My average click value for this website is $0.72 so I am not sure why these were of such low value but I don't really mind because I got three clicks which is a start.

I don't know which pages got the clicks as I took yesterday off and forgot to set up adsense tracking.

Tonight I am going to write up a to-do list so that I don't forget things like that again.

I will hopefully launch a new (possible two new) website(s) next week, depending on how my backlink finding goes for the rest of the week and whether or not I am able to learn a little more about good keyword research for MFA websites.

Tomorrow's plan is to grind out some backlink building and get the tedious work out of the way to begin with, so that as soon as I create new sites, I will have instant and strong backlink campaigns at my disposal.

    - Dylan.

Hey everybody, sorry I haven't posted any updates for yesterday or today so far, there was a family emergency and I have been unable to work on my websites or update this thread.

Today however I got three clicks and earned $1.67 so was a good result.

Apologies for my absence. I will start work and updates again tomorrow.
