Welcome to my journey where I'll focus on building a profitable Quiz site!

These sites seem to be all the rage. You've probably seen similar journeys that are popping up – here, here, and here.

Given the hype, I want to try my hand at building one and seeing just how profitable these quiz sites are. Of course, slapping ads on a website isn't anything new, but hey, we aren't here to reinvent the wheel.

So go ahead and grab your Takis, Munchies, or Popcorn; because this journey is going to be one helluva ride.

Day 1, Hour 0

While the clock may have just started in this thread, I am hard at work getting things ready behind the scenes. I'll use this first post to update you on everything I've done so far, and what you can expect in the future.

The Art of Doing Stuff:
Under this section, you'll find my latest actions towards my goal. It's called The Art of Doing Stuff because staying motivated and on task truly is an art you can master over time. You know what they say, "action begets action." Once you start, you can stay started. A body in motion stays in motion. A plan in action stays in action. Even the smallest moves can have a powerful snowball effect.

  • I acquired a domain and hosting for my website.
  • I installed Wordpress as my CMS of choice.
  • I installed a highly customizable and lightweight theme. (Newspaper)
  • I purchased and installed the Quizé plugin. (Available here on BHW)
  • I set up a CDN.
  • I designed a logo and fully branded my website.
  • I published four (4) quizzes, written by me.
  • I ordered four (4) more quizzes.
  • I set up Google Analytics and HotJar.
  • I got accepted to AdBlade, Infolinks, MGID, Hilltop Ads, and Revenue Hits.
  • I am waiting on website approval from AdSense, Content.ad, etc.

The Art of Planning:
Under this section, you'll find the actions I plan to take before the next update to reach my goal. It's called The Art of Planning because action leads to motivation. If you don't know what you need to do next, you get lazy and stop seeing results. The plan for this section is simple, write it out and get it done.

  • I want to receive and post my new quizzes.
  • I want to add Adsense or Content.ad to my website.
  • I want to test sending free traffic from Reddit to my quizzes.
  • I want to do some research on audiences for my future Facebook Ads.

Of course, there's a lot more I want to get done. But these small actions will pave the way for more. We'll start here and build from it.

Journey Goals:
"[Goals] so big you get uncomfortable telling small-minded people."

I've got a few goals for this journey. Some will be monetary; others will be personal.

Monetary:
  • $5/Day or ~$150/Month or ~$1,800/Year
  • $10/Day or ~$300/Month or ~$3,600/Year
  • $25/Day or ~$750/Month or ~$9,000/Year
  • $50/Day or ~$1,500/Month or ~$18,000/Year
  • $100/Day or ~$3,000/Month or ~$36,000/Year
  • $250/Day or ~$7,500/Month or ~$90,000/Year
  • $500/Day or ~$15,000/Month or ~$180,000/Year
  • $1,000/Day or ~$30,000/Month or ~$360,000/Year

Personal:
  • Pay off a significant portion of my student loans.
  • Use money from this journey to scale vertically and horizontally.
  • Replace my full-time income, so I have the option to leave if I ever want to.
  • Update this thread daily.

Ledger:
This is a simple way for me to keep track of my expenses. Not quite sure how I want to set this up yet, but we'll see how it evolves.

Expenses -$143.23
Revenue -$0

That's all, for now, folks.

Feel free to ask questions and make suggestions on anything from post format to the CDN I chose to what I ate for breakfast.

Good luck man, i'm following all the quizes journey since i'm running one my self.
I want to test sending free traffic from Reddit to my quizzes.
This where you have to focus the most, what ad network bring you more profit than others.

I have a problem with adsense approval since 20 days now, everytime reject.

Tried Ad Blade Medianet propellerads... free traffic "+4000 p/views" just for test, but none of them bring me the amount i'm looking for.
Media.net +3500 imps for 2 days 1 tier countries = $0 not even a cent lmao
Ad Blade work only for US traffic.
Propellerads need more imps to get their native ads to test it.

Adsense must be the main source honestly + another ad network to increase your earning.

Anyway i wish you good luck with your journay.

I appreciate your response.

Yeah, I will test with free traffic at the start. I'll do this to gauge my metrics before I send any paid traffic. It'll also give me some time to attempt to raise my CPMs, which I expect to be shit at the beginning.

If I were to run paid ads right off the bat, I don't think I would even break-even, because the networks will have no idea what they can expect from my site.

One thing I plan to do with the smaller networks is getting in touch with my account rep early and making them an advocate for me and my site.

It seems like you've got a good head on your shoulders, keep on keeping on.

Interesting idea. Are you creating all quizzes yourself, or sourcing them from elsewhere? Re-purposing content is a slippery slope, but I am curious if the same applies to quiz sites.

I'm trying to get Adsense approved, I use Media.net currently. It's hard to get good revenue on there, but I have achieved an average RPM of $20+ at some points.

Brilliant. You have an admirable vision and a dedicated plan to take advantage of momentum towards the success of your project.

Oatmeal, egg, banana ~ always a solid choice to launch a creative day.

Good luck! I'll be following your journey!
Thanks for the follow!

I have written a few quizzes myself, but the process is time-consuming.

You don't always have to spend money to make money; however, money helps speed up the process. Money spent wisely can have a dramatic effect on income.

In terms of repurposing content for use on quiz sites, it depends on your definition of the word repurpose. For some, it’s a direct copy and paste; for others, it’s using someone else’s content as inspiration in writing your unique composition.

For quiz sites, it doesn't matter if you repurpose content; what matters is the user experience. The last thing I want is my visitors retaking an exact quiz they took somewhere else.

I'm trying to get Adsense approved, I use Media.net currently. It's hard to get good revenue on there, but I have achieved an average RPM of $20+ at some points.
That’s awesome to hear.

It seems like a lot of people are getting stuck with AdSense. Don't let it pause your whole operation.

You've already proven the model with some earnings, that's a win.

Maybe I am being naive, but what's stopping you from reaching out to your account representative to request a fixed CPM? It won't be $20, but it could give you a fixed idea of what you can make. Keep in mind you can always renegotiate when other networks start to offer better deals.

Very best of luck! What CDN did you end up going with?
There’s a lot of information on the internet. It’s easy to get yourself stuck in analysis paralysis.

I tend to be a very fast decision-maker, though.

For example, I won’t look at a menu for more than 20-30 seconds before deciding what to eat; others might sit there for 15 minutes going back and forth between options.

I went with KeyCDN. I found them by browsing through the Kinsta Wordpress Speed Guide. They had a free trial, so I decided to sign up.

Brilliant. You have an admirable vision and a dedicated plan to take advantage of momentum towards the success of your project.

I appreciate the kind words.

I’ve got my mind made on this journey and I hope to accomplish most (if not all) of the goals by December 2020.

That’s a solid power breakfast, for sure. I’ve been intermittent fasting for the past year, so that was a trick question. My first meal is usually around 3 PM.

Wish you all the best for the journey
To everyone else, thanks for reading. I hope to keep you all entertained.

Day 2 - Update

The journey is off to a good start.

Last night, I sent some traffic to the website. That little bit of traffic gave me insight into how users interact with my website. Of course, it's a small data set; I intend to keep sending more traffic throughout the week.

I used Google's Data Studio to create a simple dashboard that will report the previous day's metrics for easy reporting here in the thread. For today, I'll show you today's stats. It took five minutes for any of you who wish to the same in your journey.

Check it out:

The Art of Doing Stuff:
  • I received the quizzes from the writer. (All but one)
  • I communicated with Content Ad about approving my site, despite the low amount of content.
  • I used free Reddit traffic to get a benchmark of my website's metrics.
  • I used user search behavior on my website to identify potential quiz topics.
  • I created a dashboard in Google Data Studio to report my metrics here.

The Art of Planning:
  • I will prepare and publish all the quizzes I received.
  • I will continue to send traffic. (1000 UV Minimum)

Congrats! That's a very nice result. If you add some intros you'll get approved by Adsense, I've found that it's the best paying ad network for now.
How is Reddit going with all the downvotes and spam filters? Do you post via several accounts and then upvote your own posts with your other accounts?

I kept it simple with my posts. Didn't get any downvotes. However, I just ran into problems with the spam filter so I need to figure out my strategy for reddit.

All my intros are good, so I'm not worried about that. I edit everything I receive from my writers to make sure it's up to my standard.

How does such websites earn money ? Only from ads ? So quizzes you use to generate more page views and view time ?

Interesting. I like the fact that you have it all planned.

Try to keep on plan as much as you can and best of luck. I'm still looking forward to see a journey end with $1000/day.

Best of luck bro! and i wish you pay all your students loans

hey nice journet following it.
i am also thinking of taking the quize plugin and create a site. i have an ig page with 60k followers.
can you tell me how would it be with ig?
also another thing i have a content writer can you tell me when you give order to your writer how do you ask them for the quiz? how many words content is there in 1 quiz?
