So i've been getting a decent amount of questions about what tools, websites, programs i use and i thought this might help a couple of noobies, and some oldies as well.
It's not completely whitehat? i guess it depends on how you use these tools, so if this is in the wrong section, please move it mod.
I do keyword research using G's Keyword Research Tool
Check difficulty by G'gling
intitle:"Your Keyword"
inurl:"YourKeyword"
to see how competition is &
Traffic Travis
to help see the top 10 competition.

Free search engine submissions:

Link crawling - RSS feed creation - mass link pinging
http://linklicious.me/ (helps see new backlinks sooner, and in some cases just helps see them since G doesn't always get to all of them)
Real-time website stats (not Google Analytics)

A couple of Wordpress Plugins which are crucial as well:
For link building, i use a few programs including:
The most important thing i can recommend, is when you choose your anchor text, don't just pound at that anchor text nonstop, go a little broader.
Lets say you have primary keywords:
A, B, C
pound A, B, C the most (80%) but throw in another 4 minor keywords that wouldn't be so bad to rank for because not only will it look more natural, but you will also have a chance to rank for a few other keywords which might have enough traffic combined to cover at least one of the primary.
Also, remember to do deep-linking!
Finally, write UNIQUE content. If you can't do it, pay someone on BHW 5 DOLLARS to do it. Blast article sites with semi unique content, but always put the fresh, unique stuff on YOUR site. G eats up unique content.
Also! Do yourself a favor.
Put some outbound links on your site pointing to authority sites - which aren't competition
aka - Wikipedia, FTC, IRS, News sites, etc.
G likes to see that YOU'RE NOT just a dead end for it's users and it's spiders. It wants to know that you're not just trying to exist for yourself, but to help the community and it's users. You could stick the links anywhere, and a random anchor text like Wikipedia is not going to drive users away.
I know there's a whole ton of stuff i missed here, but i wasn't ready to write the SEO Bible just yet. If you have more info to contribute, please do. That's what BHW's all about

- it looks more natural
- it's easier to rank higher for a keyword that the page is optimized for - and thats what u do with an inner page - optimize it for other keywords, usually a little easier, but important nonetheless
- more exposure - i feel like when i did linking to only the home page, G didn't like me as much. as soon as i started linking to inner pages, the homepage went up in serps - of course this is also because your overall website gets more backlinks and authority pass from ******** authority sites, but either way, i get this "you're kind legitimate" feeling
